So you mean to tell me everybody in your neck of the woods doesn't have a Saint Bernard that fetches adult beverages for them when the weather turns ugly?

Yup, no snow here, but it's witch's-tit cold.

No, its a good idea though. I'll probably just switch to whiskey or rum tonight.Sparky wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022, 12:27pmSo you mean to tell me everybody in your neck of the woods doesn't have a Saint Bernard that fetches adult beverages for them when the weather turns ugly?

When I heard the weather warnings, they didn't mention Canada being hit, sounded like it was further south, but I did see the extreme cold forecasted.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022, 12:31pmYup, no snow here, but it's witch's-tit cold.

I only chimed in because revbob and I almost always share the same weather (for that matter, we're pretty close to Boston; if it's raining here, there's a decent chance the Red Sox will be rained out).Sparky wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022, 12:42pmWhen I heard the weather warnings, they didn't mention Canada being hit, sounded like it was further south, but I did see the extreme cold forecasted.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022, 12:31pmYup, no snow here, but it's witch's-tit cold.

Make yourself a hot-buttered rum and look out the window at the snowy woods pensively.revbob wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022, 12:38pmNo, its a good idea though. Yeah just cold here too, and my St. Bernard is in the shop. Sounds like BBE is the one who’s getting slammed by the nor’easter. According to the various forecasts I looked at, Doc and Rev and I will probably get 5 inches or so on Weds-Thurs, but we should miss the worst of it this weekend.Sparky wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022, 12:27pmSo you mean to tell me everybody in your neck of the woods doesn't have a Saint Bernard that fetches adult beverages for them when the weather turns ugly?

I don’t actually have a St. Bernard of course, I just drive to the liquor store, but I did just get my jeep back from the shop a few days ago. It was New York State annual vehicle inspection time for me, yay!. Had about $1500 in repairs/new tires/new brakes/etc. done to it. Hoping to get another couple years out of it, as used car prices are pretty crazy right now. Figured it was worth the investment rather than getting a new/used vehicle right now.
Do you non-New Yorkers have to get annual vehicle inspections? It’s a pain, but keeps the cars on the road a bit safer. When I went to school in Ohio for a couple years in the late 90s, I mentioned to a friend that I had to go back to NY for a day or two as my inspection was due - he laughed at me, “yeah right”, and thought I was kidding as he’d never heard of such a thing. To this day, I imagine that half the cars on the road in Ohio are death traps with shitty brakes, etc. They were also late to adopt seat belt laws and ban driving while using a cell phone – muh freedoms! Of course, Ohio also had drive-thru liquor stores, which was an entirely new concept to me at the time.

Re: Beaner's and Rattie's Weather Porn Thread
Me too mostly, but I like to be aware ahead of time of snowfalls that require snow-blowing. If I don’t bring the blower inside the back door from the unheated garage the night before, it’s usually too cold to get it started easily. Also, if it’s already gassed up, has enough air in the tires, and is otherwise ready to go, the whole ordeal of clearing snow becomes much less of a hassle and I actually kinda look forward to it. I hate driving on neglected snow crust to get out of my driveway when my neighbors have bare concrete after a couple days. I wasn’t always this responsible about snow clearing, lol.

Yeah since my wife and I mostly work from home I generally only need to be concerned with getting the kid to school although I could tell him to take the bus. Bottom line I just deal when it happens. Once I get the snowblower started the first time Im good for the season and I use the electric start the first time .Kimmelweck wrote: ↑30 Jan 2022, 5:25pmMe too mostly, but I like to be aware ahead of time of snowfalls that require snow-blowing. In California we don't have the annual vehicle inspection, but we have smog checks every other year that are a pain in the butt. I have one car that's very clean emissions wise, but the engine is modified and even though I have CARB (California Air Resource Board) approved parts, some shops have declined to smog it.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑30 Jan 2022, 5:21pmI don’t actually have a St. Bernard of course, I just drive to the liquor store, but I did just get my jeep back from the shop a few days ago.
