Pretty sure I've related this story before, but connected to RP's comment above, when we were living in NC there was a hurricane threat and all the local affiliates sent their weather dorks to the coast. At the last second, the storm turned back east to the ocean. And the look on the faces of the news people was true disappointment. Impossible to mistake for anything else despite their words of relief that damage was minimal.

Universal Hub, the Boston-area blog aggregate, makes light of this every time there's a storm: http://www.universalhub.com/french-toast. They reported that the Weather Channel "party tent" has been set up on the Cape for 2 days already.

Los Angeles hit 113 degrees on Monday making it their hottest temperature ever recorded since records began in 1877.

If you lived in LA, your facebook would be a constant weather report.

I think it's cute that

a) you think you have weather

b) you think it's different anywhere else. Every fucking winter in Chicago it's about 45 people doing different variations on "BRRRRRRR!"

that's why it's notable, cuz how many degrees it is usually isn't an issue over here.

Yes, but the records only go back to 1876 when the Hall of Records mysteriously melted.

I changed it. When Homer told Lisa there's never been a hurricane in Springfield, she said the records only go back to 1978 when the Hall of Records was mysteriously blown away.

Don't get too clever—your audience here gets confused by deviation and modification.

CNN referred to it as Burricane. Clever. For about five minutes.
