i've been watching jess franco movies a lot and they keep getting worse, which i like.

Haha, some of them are good. I've learned Jean Rollin movies are better though!

yup, he's more poetic. seen most from the 70s - just found out he still did some movies in the 00s, gonna have to check them out. argentos later stuff is horrible unfortunately.

I’m not good at deciphering movies but yes everyone chose a plate of food to go on the platform so in theory there should be enough to go round so why does it run out after xxx number of floors when there are xxx still to go. Fat cats stuffing their faces on the top floors.

sneak peak, these hit the public tomorrow! (just kidding, I post them on reddit where like 4 people read them)

The Platform (2019) Two prisoners in a cell eat once a day from a descending platform with the leftovers from the cells above in this great, allegorical Spanish language entry. Violent, often gross, and memorable. Highly Recommended.

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018) A group of young people take their hand-held cameras into the title location to get hits for their streaming internet show. The premise doesn’t thrill me as it seems to have been done to death, but when the action starts I’d say that this one is probably better than most. It gave me a couple chills, and I’m glad I watched it, but I probably wouldn’t watch it again. Korean with subtitles.

Lisa and the Devil (1973) Elke Sommer gets separated from her tour group and finds herself in a remote castle, where the creepy butler (Telly Savalas) reminds her of a painting of the devil she saw earlier in the day. Other guests in the house get repeatedly run over by a car, head smashed in with a pipe, and other assorted gory deaths. Savalas carries around a wax dummy that occasionally has a lifelike appearance. Cool, ghosty, dreamy and well shot by Mario Bava. In 1975, producer Alfredo Leone shot some new material with Sommer and re-released it to an American market as House of Exorcism to cash in on the devil craze. Both versions are on my DVD, so I watched the later version the next day with my finger on the FF button. The new scenes are Sommer is possessed and spitting up pea soup in a hospital bed and the Lisa & the Devil scenes come up in flashback. The American version has longer nude scenes than the original, as well as an added one, while the original’s death scenes are more graphic.

A Bay of Blood (1971) Mario Bava’s celebrated giallo about murders over ownership of lakeside property is most remembered for a side plot of some young people going to a cabin to party and becoming incidental victims of the killer, a scene that was heavily influential on Friday the 13th and the American slasher genre as a whole. As expected, lots of pretty girls, nudity, twists, and gory kills, this is a top rate giallo.

The Road Warrior aka Mad Max 2 (1981) Near perfect action film, and a frontrunner in the “sequel better than the original” category.

The Howling III: The Marsupials (1987) A pretty young women runs away from her werewolf tribe and finds herself on set of a cheap horror movie. During transformation scenes, she keeps telling her boyfriend “That’s not how it happens.” Well, Australian werewolves have pouches, can crossbreed, and are hunted by the American militia! This movie has some really bad FX, some of them intentional, but it’s sort of funny and has a lot of heart, making it overall an entertaining watch. French-Aussie director Philippe Mora also did the wild Howling 2, but this is a standalone.

You Might Be the Killer (2018) Comedy-Slasher about the lead camp counselor retracing his steps and figuring out that he must be the one swinging the machete. The gore was good, none of the humor was good enough to laugh out loud, but amusing enough for a one time watch.

Trauma (1993) Asia Argento is a teenage bulimic who’s fortune telling parents were murdered by the “Headhunter” , who uses a handheld device with a retractable metal wire that results in clean decapitations. An adult take an interest in Asia that at times seems sexual. He does look at her tits while she’s changing. She was playing 16, but I believe she was 18. Ask her dad, Dario, who directed. Aregento’s 90s output isn’t very well received, and this one is OK, but not particularly memorable. With Piper Laurie and Brad Dourif, and Tom Savini has an FX credit.

Beyond Re-Animator (2003) A young doctor familiar with and ready to continue the work of Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) gets assigned to his prison, and the wild experiments start again. Elsa Pataky plays the babe newspaper reporter, apparently she’d go on to appear in a thousand Fast & Furious movies. Simon Andreu, 30 years removed from leading man status in a lot of good giallo films, plays the evil rat-toothed warden. Brian Yuzna directs.

Masters of Horror: Lucky McKee "Sick Girl" (2006) The director of May reunites with Angela Bettis, a “bug doctor” who starts a same-sex relationship with cutie-pie Erin Brown aka soft-core porn actress Misty Mundae. A rare insect that Angela keeps stings Misty, who begins a slow and gooey metamorphosis, complete with a murderous personality change. Possibly my favorite episode of MOH, this is sexy, funny and loaded with gross out scenes.

Masters of Horror: Larry Cohen "Pick Me Up" (2006) A pair of serial killers, one a truck driver (Michael Moriarty) and the other a drifter, battle over who gets to off Fairuza Balk, the last survivor from a broken down Greyhound bus, in this very fun entry for the great LarCo.

Masters of Horror: John McNaughton "Haeckel's Tale" (2006) McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, The Borrower) directs a Mick Garris script from a Clive Barker short story. A would-be American Frankenstein fails at reviving the dead, but comes across reanimated corpses via necromacy during a walking trip, despite his disbelief. Later he finds a shocking secret about the beautiful young wife of the old man who offered him shelter from the rain. Great nudity in this one, all around good episode.

Masters of Horror: Takashi Miike “Imprint” (2006) An American (Billy Drago) searchers for the Japanese prostitute he fell in love with on his previous trip to bring her back to the states with him, but ends up hearing a brutally graphic tale of torture, death, mutilation, lies, and abortions, abortions, abortions from a hooker with a deformed face. What an episode, this one should stick with me for a long time. Miike directed about five features a year from the mid 90s all the way up to only a couple years ago!

The Wizard of Oz is on TCM, something I haven't seen in probably twenty years or more. I have learned from a spouse who shall remain nameless that making jokes about Judy Garland's addiction is inappropriate.

VFW (2019) When Boz (a leader of a crazy gang of punks) causes the death of a friend, Lizard (Sierra McCormick) steals his stash of drugs. Running for her life she takes refuge in a VFW club (Veterens of Foreign Wars) who protect her from the attacking gang. Really liked this one, the gore factor in the fight scenes was over the top! Cast has a bunch of veteren actors, including Steven Lang and Fred Williamson as the occupants of the VFW club.
