Halloween Kills (2021) Internet buzz gave me low expectations but I had fun with it despite its problems. Looks like the teenage grand daughter may have outgrew her character in the three years off! Better film that next one quick!
I liked how this one brought back some minor characters from the original 1978 movie, even Dr. Loomis with a look alike actor, but I didn't like ending.

Saw the Beastie Boys sorta doc on whatever Apple's channel is that we have a free trial of. Basically a love letter to Yauch with a lot of fun footage and great commentary from Adam H and Mike D.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

There are some legit criticisms about the hospital scenes and the fact that the plot really doesn't move forward at all. Also the characters make some really dumb decisions. The violence was heavy but the goofy over the top squishy sounds deadened the impact for me. I did like Big John and Little John.

Hey Tep, you should try out the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix. First one, 1994 (the most blessed year of the blessed decade) is probably the weakest, but it's a pretty well done little trilogy. Just excuse the obnoxious era-specific music placement. It's over the top.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Particularly 94 was like 5 seconds of a song before cutting over immediately to the next song for 5 seconds. As perfect as the Blessed Decade is, I need my songs to breath a little.

Horror Noire (2021) A Shudder Original anthology consisting of six stories from black directors. A couple stories were OK, I thought they suffered from ambiguous endings. One particular story about vampires was fun, and one about a religious cult was pretty good. One that was a period piece nearly put me to sleep. Mediocre at best.

Censor (2021) Set in the era of British “Video Nasties”, Enid works as a censor, screening violent movies for VHS release. She sees a film that she believes might be a clue to the whereabouts of her sister, who has been missing since childhood, and goes on an investigation with strange results. Interesting concept, not dull, but I wouldn’t watch this twice.

Old (2021) Multiple families/couples staying at a tropical resort become trapped on a secluded beach where they begin to rapidly age. I know M. Night Shamalan has served a few clunkers in his career, but I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish, so I’ll thank the internet for lowered expectations. The teenagers were the Hereditary kid, and the girl from Last Night in Soho.

Pig (2021) Take a revenge plot and make it an arthouse movie and this is what you’ve got. Nic Cage is an off-the-grid truffle farmer whose pet pig gets kidnapped, so he gets his snobby buyer (the kid from Hereditary) to drive him around Portland to ask questions, while refusing to bathe or even wipe the dried blood off his face. If I was expecting Swine Mandy, that’s on me, it was nothing of the sort.

There’s Someone Inside Your House (2021) High school students are murdered one at a time, as their deep dark secrets are simultaneously exposed on social media. The gimmick was the killer was wearing a mask of each victim during the attack. So, someone with access to a mask factory? Not the worst time-waster, but not particularly good either. From the director of Creep, which I didn’t really like.

The Toxic Avenger (1984) A fave of mine as a teen. Melvin the Mop Boy draws the wrath of the mean (and murderous) teens at the Health Club. A practical joke gone to far leaves Melvin an 8 foot tall, muscular monster who rids the streets of crime in Tromaville, much the dismay of the evil and obese mayor. Over the top gore and nudity from the three good-looking female leads (2 means girls and a blind girlfriend Toxie picks up along the way) make this a fun view nearly 40 years later.

The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism aka Blood Demon aka Blood of the Virgins aka Castle of the Walking Dead (1967) Those are all some pretty good titles, but Dr. Sadism takes the cake! Christopher Lee is Count Regula, who is brutally quartered in the opening scenes for the murder and torture of 12 young women. 35 years later, a man gets an invitation from the Count to meet him at his castle, and he goes despite warnings from the locals. He picks up a few passengers on the way, including a pretty young lady. Everything you would want from a haunted castle is waiting for them when they get there, dead bodies, skeletons, spiders, snakes, rats, suits of armor that move, bubbling cauldrons, trap doors and an arsenal of torture devices. Fun and creepy gothic thriller, it was like a cross between Pit and the Pendulum and Black Sunday. In fact it has a "based on" credit for Poe's P&P. Lex Barker was the lead, he played Tarzan 5 times in the 40s and 50s, gorgeous German actress Karin Dor had just come off her role as a Bond girl in You Only Live Twice. Too bad they wasted four great titles on one movie, but it was a heck of a movie!

Hide and Go Shriek (1988) A group of good looking teens (one in particular was gorgeous) spend the night in a father’s furniture warehouse, where, unbeknownst to them, an ex-con employee sleeps. First comes the sex, then comes the murders. Decent movie with a good ending. Nudity, yes. I wonder if this sat on the shelf, it felt more like 82 – 84 than it did 88.

Sorority House Massacre II (1990) Five college girls buy an old murder house to use as the sorority, and after a night of fun and disrobing, the murders begin. The flashback scenes were all repurposed from Slumber Party Massacre. Directed by Jim “Chopping Mall” Wynorski. Less than 80 minutes.

Hostel (2005) Eli Roth’s torture porn classic about a couple American caught up in kidnap and kill for top dollar scheme in eastern Europe is loaded with gore, suspense and naked women! It had been many years since I’d seen this, even better than I remembered! Look for a cameo from Takashi Miike.

Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (1971) Jessica and her husband, along with a friend leave the city to calm her nerves after a breakdown. They invite the hippie girl who was squatting in their house to live with them. The 70s were a different time! Tales of vampires and visions of people who may or may not be there pushes her closer to the edge in this slow and surreal tale from a director who’s next project would be the classic TV drama Bang the Drum Slowly.

Piranha II: The Spawning (1981) Infamous for being James Cameron’s directorial debut, even though he might have been fired during the production, this one has a bad rap, but it’s not that awful. Employees and guests of a Caribbean beach resort are under attack from genetically mutated piranha, who have sprouted and wings and can now fly! It takes a while to get going, but there’s some A+ nudity to help pass the time during character development. Lance Henrickson plays the “Chief Brody” part.

I feel like this is one of those movies that looked good in TV guide as a kid but then when you'd watch it on creature feature or whatever you were seriously disappointed.

Oh man, I haven't seen this in about thirty years. Saw it at the campus theatre midnight show in, I'm guessing, '90 or '91. I feel obliged to find a copy now.

Yeah, I saw it many years ago and felt it was short of something, but goddamn if it isn't praised by many. Light on the action for sure.

I liked Old too.
Last Night In Soho was also really good. The twist at the end was a total surprise to me.
