You unspeakable cad.
We've just had a boatload of aliens land on our west coast — as good excuse as any for our press to revisit to the treasured Canadian tradition of melancholic national navel-gazing.

Steve and his ilk would, of course, love to introduce some Arizona into the national discourse. Anything to add more us versus them to the mix. More threats justify more authoritarianism.Inder wrote:You unspeakable cad.

It's telling that all the freedom-loving tea party types took time off from railing against Obama's weak-ass healthcare bill to praise and celebrate the draconian arizona law when that was passed.Dr. Medulla wrote:Steve and his ilk would, of course, love to introduce some Arizona into the national discourse. Side note - my cab driver from the hotel to the airport in Austin yesterday was wearing a wrist band that said: "Never forget 03-23-1775, 03-23-2010". I asked him about it and he said it was remembering Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech and that the 2010 date was the passing of Obama's health care legislation which meant that we were being given death. I asked him if it was tea party related and after some hesitation, he confirmed. I chose not to discuss politics with him anymore although he told me that Anaheim California (a pretty conservative area that once was a KKK strong hold) was like the rest of California in that it was like granola, filled with "fruits, nuts, and flakes."Flex wrote:It's telling that all the freedom-loving tea party types took time off from railing against Obama's weak-ass healthcare bill to praise and celebrate the draconian arizona law when that was passed.Dr. Medulla wrote:Steve and his ilk would, of course, love to introduce some Arizona into the national discourse. Anyway, he spent the rest of the ride telling me about where to get 2lb hamburgers next time I'm in Texas.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

These are the same people who are moaning about freedoms being taken away. It's just mindblowingly crazy.Inder wrote:Have you seen the anti-mosque rally vid on balloon juice? Re: I saw some aliens.
I'm still standing by my belief that political assassinations are going to be back in vogue in the US, like the 60s and 70s. There's enough desperation, marginalization, and egging on by people with microphones and blogs that that's the next logical step. All in under two years after a campaign supposedly about change and hope.Inder wrote:Have you seen the anti-mosque rally vid on balloon juice?
