I just realized what all that reminds me of. It's like you're Pamela Adlon's character in Better Things. I could totally hear her saying that to Duke (the only good kid).

Re: The Simpsons
I think I've mentioned that Sam reminds us a lot of a dear friend (she's family more than friend). Michelle doesn't have kids and is gloriously free of all entanglements, but the show was like an alternate universe where she was a single mom because she's that kind of odd and self-possessed cool. That show made me want to be Pamela Adlon's friend.JennyB wrote: ↑06 Feb 2023, 1:18pmRight? Re: The Simpsons
The five year old asked to watch The Simpsons the other day. I tried to withhold my giddiness. I had the season 8 dvds out and decided to curate two Lisa centric episodes - the one where she starts the recycling plant with Mr burns and the one where she goes to military school with Bart. Both positive female role model episodes with other positive messages (don’t trust the rich, support your siblings). I didn’t force the second episode, she asked to watch it, which was good. She did at one point ask me to stop laughing so much. Oops.
I don’t watch too much Simpsons these days, but when I do, it’s always the throwaway jokes I’ve forgotten that hit the hardest. In this case, Wiggum is giving a tour of the police station and shows off the police radio noting the various banana stickers they place on them. It’s a brilliant touch that they start off with real companies before going to made up ones. The last one killed me for some reason.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Yeah, the text version doesn't properly capturing him leering and emphasizing each syllable with extra disgust. I've used that inflection with a Jewish friend before, during high holidays, asking whether he'd be going to syn-a-gogue.matedog wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023, 10:55amHa, I didn’t remember that one either.
