I'm finally getting a chance to read this. I love that Sam Simon came up with the Flintstones theme parody lines off the top of his head.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑06 Nov 2020, 7:30pmMarge vs. the Monorail remembered: https://www.vice.com/en/article/akdzx5/ ... e-simpsons

It's stunning how poor the reception was to so many episodes that are understood to be the high point of the series.Kory wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020, 4:59pmI'm finally getting a chance to read this. Re: The Simpsons
I can see how a show that was about family issues that gradually became way more surreal would be a bit jarring. I certainly didn't feel that way at the time but hey I was 10.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020, 5:00pmIt's stunning how poor the reception was to so many episodes that are understood to be the high point of the series.Kory wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020, 4:59pmI'm finally getting a chance to read this. Re: The Simpsons
This bit is great too:
Jeff Martin: Mindless groupthink is a recurrent theme on The Simpsons, and I think the monorail episode is the best – and certainly my favourite – example of Springfield mob mentality. Watching the episode, I decided to go ahead and time it. From Lanley whistling in the back of the auditorium to the entire town marching on the town hall steps singing “Monorail!” is a little less than two minutes. I think it took Harold Hill at least four minutes to whip up River City.

I think that's the one with the aptitude test and Milhouse gets military strongman.

Re: The Simpsons
One of the earlier ones that I remember the "tonight on the Simpsons" commercial really well for. They made a very big deal of the scene where Snake bears down on Bart with his car.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 3:33pmI think that's the one with the aptitude test and Milhouse gets military strongman.
