I kind of love how this thread has evolved into two distinct and discrete conversations between North Americans and people from the UK about culturally specific shows.
Yeah and I have zero interest in watching the Two Ronnies.
I would never have guessed.
I actually did try but wasn't feeling it. The Florence Nightingale one further up made me laugh a bit.

Understandable. There is a quaint Britishness in the humour which probably doesn't travel well. So what's America's excuse?

Excuse for what?
Comedy I find bad.
So you're saying you dont like American comedy?
I think comedy has a bigger cultural element to it than a lot of art forms.
Im curious of examples of American comedy that you find bad.
Well it was a bit of a jokey remark observing our cultural differences. There is some American comedy I find funny but it's usually movies rather than sitcoms and sketch shows etc. If you want a quick example of bad American comedy, how about Big Bang Theory?

We all loved Happy Days until Fonzy jumped the shark.

That's a mighty low blow. Im pretty sure nearly every north American on this board has expressed nothing but contempt for that show...hmm not sure about Hoy now that I think of it.
No its a horrible show. If its sitcoms you're interested in I/we could provide a list that Im sure would offer you some genuine laughs.
Any other examples of American comedy you hate ?
For sketch shows, Ive been watching Key and Peele again lately.
I was thinking about a kid I went to school with. He was pretty slow and dopey, but he'd try to cover it up by dropping big words into sentences. Which made me think of one of my favourite KitH sketches:
I love some of the minor touches, such as "your good lady wife." Such a strange and formal phrase for a ridiculous situation.
I was interviewing a person today and it was going well and then he dropped an ascertain where it didn't really belong.

So you just didn't appreciate his ascertaination.
He wasn't able to delineate between something he was trying to understand and something he was trying to accomplish.
