Video edit help

Well, I was looking to buy Nero 8 (the newest) to edit ripped DVD videos and upload to YouTube or just to copy... but as I'm looking at the customer reviews on amazon.com, it seems that Nero (any version) is a HUGE pain in the ass. Does anyone have Nero to give your input or can anyone recommend another format for editing ripped DVDs (I used DVD Shrink)? Thanks.
