I somehow feel bad not knowing about Petticoat Junction but that little 10 year old boy still remembers Benji very well.

Did you know that the final Cheeta from Tarzan passed away last year? Maybe this belongs in the chimp thread, but he was born in 1960 ... making him quite old for a chimp (I think).

This scene in the opening credits was like porn for this little guy. My friend on I kept hoping they might pop up a little higher each week so we could see some boobs.

That probably isn't too old for a chimp in captivity. I think I read that non-feral capuchins lived 30–40 years, which means you do have a window of sorts for adopting one to minimize the chance of dying before it.

Okay, so I revisited the song "Teardrops" by Womack & Womack. As far as I know, this song was a hit everywhere except the US. I was curious if there was any relation to Bobby Womack and wow this is fucked up.

Sam Cooke has a daughter Linda Cooke.
Sam Cooke is murdered.
Sam Cooke's widow marries Bobby Womack. Bobby becomes stepfather to Linda Cooke.
Sam Cooke's widow finds Bobby allegedly sexually abusing Linda, his stepdaughter and she shots a gun at him. Linda never talks to her mother again after this.
Linda Cooke marries Bobby's uncle. Basically, her step-uncle.

What a weird, incestuous story.
The most alarming part of this story is that Teardrops wasn't a hit in the US.

The blonde on the right is Gunilla Hutton (the least sexy first name ever) and she was on an episode of Match Game that I caught several months ago. I checked Wikipedia on her and learned that she had an affair with Nat King Cole that ended when his missus found out—well, Gunilla told her—and gave him an ultimatum.

I only became familiar with it because Aussie garage/punk/soul band Royal Headache covered it regularly. It’s a terrific song and I think the cover is pretty solid
(Starts at like 2 minutes in)
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I just find it insane that songs like this are worldwide hits but fail to gain any traction in the States. Especially when the artists are American. It's like someone's missing a massive business opportunity to get it out there and clean up.

I mentioned my discovery to The Boss yesterday and she snorted, "Yes, I knew his name was Higgins." This wasn't actually common knowledge, was it?
