This found its way into my viewing not too long ago, pretty interesting:

I showed that to Ali and she was delighted.

Growing up in the 80s, you either had this living room or a friend did.

If that was at a friend's we weren't allowed to sit on that furniture.

I had a couple friends who had one room in their house where the furniture was for the eyes, not the ass. One even had clear plastic wrap on the sofa and chairs.

That was pretty common as I recall. You might be allowed in the room but kids sat on the floor.

Along the same lines, decorative soaps—aka Special Avon Soap—that sat in a basket, often on the back of the toilet tank, and no one was ever allowed to use. Maybe it was fake soap, I dunno, but no matter how dirty your hands or face was, nuh uh, do not touch that fake green pear or red cherry soap (covered with a film of dust) in the basket. My mother, an absurdly practical Dutch woman, never went for any of that stuff—use it or get rid of it—and I've completely absorbed that mentality. I can't fathom things that have a distinct use but you're not allowed to use it because it's there to … be admired?

I'm feel very inadequate now because I apparently lack the cool life experiences and skills expected of my generation.

It's a wonder that I don't have dysentery or tetanus from the garden hose.

I still don't hesitate to drink from a garden hose if I'm in the yard working.

Also, why not some Carlin?

I can't listen to this now because I am on a work zoom, but I trust that it's perfectly on point.

It's a bit disconcerting in our anti-vax age, but re. OCD hygiene, I respect his snarl.

Had a minor household task that I determined required a hammer and said to the Boss: "Hammer time!" Then muttered, "Damn kids today don't know what those words mean."

I honestly and truly thought my habit of ending sentences with ellipses was idiosyncratic. Is it actually a Gen X thing?
