A Fawlty Towers remake in the works: https://variety.com/2023/global/news/fa ... 235515583/

And when it bombs, Cleese can blame the woke mob and CRT and drag queen groomers etc etc.
Maybe it will put an end to all the "Fawlty Towers would never have been made in this Woke era" nonsense so swings and roundabouts i guess.
He's still got an out card. Yes, it got made, but the woke mob would not let it succeed.

In E1, asked by inquisitive guests as to the whereabouts of Manuel, Basil claims he bought himself a big fuck off retirement home down in Devon with all the money he'd saved over the years but later his daughter drunkenly gives it away that Manuel got deported after Brexit because he'd never filled out his naturalisation forms, being told repeatedly by Basil that he wasn't sufficiently British to do so.

Episode idea: Under pressure from a town council gone mad with power, Basil needs to put in new toilets but can't find ones that will satisfy the environmentalists, the transgendered, and a Polish gang that runs the streets. Hilarity ensues.

The filling out of the gender section on the check in form is very obvious but too rich with comic potential not to exploit. And the episode where a busybody woke town councillor shows up to book Towers for a consignment of refugees is a verified rib tickler.

The refugees are all wearing life jackets and turbans.

Rob Reiner added: “John Cleese is a comedy legend. Just the idea of working with him makes me laugh.”
That could be read as a brilliant slight.

Watching one of my favourite WKRP episodes (and one of my favourite episodes of anything), "The Painting." Wonderful self-contained lunacy.

Did you happen to notice the Rolling Stone cover on the wall with Strummer & Jones at the 8:10 mark?

Indeed! That series is still seriously fucking good. 1970s tv produced a whole lotta shit (like any decade), but MTM did some fantastic workplace comedies.

I have to agree with you there, probably some of the highest quality TV came out of MTM Enterprises.

Plus St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues. It was a brand that had serious quality control.

I never realized WKRP was MTM. St. Elsewhere would semi-regularly drop in Mary Tyler Moore gags and references. Gotta check out more of their catalog, I think.
