I started Harlots on hulu but stopped after the fourth episode. I have lots of thoughts.
So, uncomplimentary thoughts? I've never heard of it (tho we do call our one cat Charlotte the Harlot).
Interesting that one of the characters is Charlotte.

I think this review kind of sums it up for me. https://m.imdb.com/review/rw7287710/?ref_=m_tt_urv

Ah. But making it historical piece makes it respectable!

The Boss and I watched the first episode of White House Plumbers last night, a deliberately farcical interpretation of Nixon goons Hunt and Liddy. Because the source material is already laced with absurdity and incompetence, the leap to farce doesn't come off as forced. Last year's Gaslit already made Liddy out as comically insane—The Boss knows only the very rough basics of Watergate, so she was stunned and kept asking me if such and such was true; inevitably, I'd say, yeah, not a whole of exaggeration here—but this goes a step or two further.
Two episode in, this is very entertaining. There's a very Ianucci quality to it all.
That's me sold. Also reminds me I've yet to start on Series 2 of his science fiction show I've forgotten the name of.
Avenue 5, which was unfortunately cancelled. I get the criticism of it that it was kind of pointless in terms of narrative, but the steady batshittery worked for us.
Avenue 5,that's it. Gonna start tonight in case i just forget about it again, very much enjoyed S1 so more of the same and I'm a happy bunny.

Speaking of Ianucci, I just happened to watch a random Veep episode on the comedy channel yesterday and it had me veritably snorting with laughter which i can testify is not an easy thing to do.

I did a full-ass re-watch of Veep a few months after not watching it all except for when new episodes were being released. I found it far more engaging than I gave it credit for, benefiting, perhaps, from that intense immersion into the whole thing.

It's a curious thing that in the midst of a more ardent feminist expression, especially connected to speaking out about sexual abuse and exploitation, there is a simultaneous uptick in nudity on tv. I don't have an argument or anything about that, just a casual observation.

I love it but i do think it can be a bit overpowering at times in terms of script, like they are trying too hard to make every single line a zinger and sometimes the plots can seem a little undercooked as a result. I felt this even more so with its limey precursor, The Thick of It which, if you took out Malcolm Tucker's foul mouthed rants and diatribes, would leave little substance. Plus, Veep has Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and she is quite likely the best comic actor I've ever seen, or right up there at least.

That's a fair assessment. It's a very writerly style, where the dialogue can come off as the writers showing off their vocabulary and cleverness. If you step back from the environment, we're supposed to accept that almost all the characters are boobs, yet most everything out of their mouth is le mot juste. A former friend of mine hated shows and books like that because it made it impossible for him to embrace the fiction—the superiority of the dialogue made it all too unreal. He just thought it was writers showing off rather than telling a story. My attitude was (and is) that it's a gamble. It either succeeds immensely or it's pretentious garbage—there really is no in-between. Writing more like everyday conversation is a safer course (tho risking being deathly dull).

Spot on. I fall on the immense success side of the line because the quality of the writing, with one or two exceptions, is first rate and quite well sustained to the conclusion.

It's a song contest for, mostly, crap songs (imo anyway) but that doesn't stop people from really liking it. It may even increase the appeal in some respects. I did watch every year as a kid but only really for the voting part which was resolutely political and, thus, generally entertaining. It has all changed significantly in recent years and don't really understand how it works anymore.
