I always get him and Ivan Reitman confused. Hey, Groundhog Day was great the last time I saw it like 15 years ago.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Aw shit. I'll always think of him first and foremost as Moe Green, SCTV's original program director who was kidnapped by terrorists. Such an understated funny guy.

He was also SUPER supportive of all the young people coming up through Second City. I have never heard an unkind word about him, which is rare in the insular world of Chicago improv/Comedy.

He gave off that vibe of being decent and unassuming. Someone like, say, Ackroyd, on the other hand, I could believe works multiple agendas. I know my rationale for this is unfair to Ackroyd, it's all superficial and impressionistic, but Ramis came off as a guy who loved the work, the results, and didn't care about ego. Man, that's just way too young. I don't get as bothered when someone dies in their 80s because they've had a long and presumably productive life, but 60s now seems too close to middle age.

Terrible news. He was great in the Ghostbusters movies, but my favorite film of his is Stripes.

He was the first guy I knew as a kid who actually did comedy. I'd seek out his movies at the video store and stuff. Very sad.

P.S. Ice Harvest is woefully underrated. I love that movie. Watch it every Christmas.

Ice Harvest is great.

I've been taking this a lot harder than I thought I would.

I'll third that recommendation for The Ice Harvest. Richard Russo wrote the screenplay and it has all the hallmarks of his wit and appreciation for perverse situations.
