Somehow managed to avoid the nutter with a knife in Sydney this afternoon. This suicide by Police is getting out of hand.

And thank goodness it was just a knife. If that had happened in the US, he would have killed dozens with the gun he's likely have easily procured.

There's also this story from Missouri: https://abcnews.go.com/US/man-detained- ... d=64870120

It illustrates well the absurdity of proliferation and open carry. You have no idea whether the person strutting around with their weapon is there to shoot people or not, so the sensible course of action is to panic and get the fuck out, or shoot them first. And, trust me, Originalists, that's not what the Founders had in mind with the 2nd A.

*gasp* I just realized that actual human beings can be hurt by the proliferation of guns!
Did he even try thoughts and prayers?

But seriously until then it was fuck all those other people's kids/family members.

Its still a good thing he's changed his mind but is this what needs to happen to these people? Do they need to experience the tragedy first hand for it to have an impact?

This is the way it is for people most driven by any ideology—the human is replaced with the abstract. The principle is all that counts and the bodies are meh. It's jaw-dropping, for example, how removed radicals like Weatherman were. Dead people? Yeah, well, they deserve to die. Just so drenched in their ideological righteousness that they couldn't conceive of what they were doing in human terms … until the townhouse explosion and three comrades were killed. Shit started to hit home then. Same thing with gun nut conservatives. Every dead person as the result of gun violence is an acceptable price to be paid (by someone else) for their principle of profit, selfishness, and paranoia. At the end of the day, every 2A zealot is ultimately fine with every person killed and maimed by a gun, every family fucked up, because the human is less important than the abstract.

Very true. I think Australia had one mass shooting years ago and reacted by changing its gun laws.

Yes they ripped up the gun laws and started again. Did a good job.
