I guess I shouldn't be that surprised. When you're an "edgy and outrageous" figure, eventually you burn out/wear out your welcome from constantly trying to be "edgy and outrageous" or you transition to a measure of respectability and become institutionalized (I don't necessarily mean that in a pejorative way, either).
