I think it goes both ways, when I get into the rural country towns I certainly bring my big city biases (even though I live in a small town now). My favorite one that my wife commented on is that I speak to rural folk carefully and don't break the three syllable word barrier and always wear a baseball cap and hoodie in those parts.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025, 12:39pmIt's a funny thing that the popular imagination is stuck in 1972 when it comes to cities. It's such an odd thing because I always feel more insecure in a small town. Greater chance someone's got access to a gun, more likely intolerant of … lots of stuff, not a lot of places to go if someone goes wrong.

Ha! I avoid going back to Saskatchewan just so I don't have to negotiate that horseshit. I've become increasingly intolerant of rural bullshit. I'm done with the casual bigotry and indulged victimhood because they don't want to share the world with others. I used to engage and have conversations, trying to be more sympathetic, but looking at the politics coming out of those places, fuck 'em. They have a spoiled child's view of the world and I'm not going to have an adult conversation with them.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025, 1:07pmI think it goes both ways, when I get into the rural country towns I certainly bring my big city biases (even though I live in a small town now). I am with you and stay heads down in those places. I used to try to bridge the gap and roll with stuff but after careful reflection I just don't give a damn anymore.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025, 1:47pmHa! The irony of that is our climate has gone tits up because of all the stuff that has been pumped into the air for the past 150+ years.Sparky wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025, 3:11pmThose pesky "Jewish Space Lasers" may be outlawed if a certain person gets their way.![]()
