Own this shit, gun rights people. Embrace this as part of the society you want to exist. These are the eggs you're willing to sacrifice every day for your freedom omelet.

90% of Americans (and 75% of NRA members) want universal background checks. But no, because TYRANNY.

I used to be more keen on the ownership of firearms when I was a Marxist, but:
1. Military technology has so outpaced the kinds of firepower that average people can muster that a violent revolution just isn't feasible without cooperation from the military.

2. If guns are a check on tyranny, then why have we seen the unimpeded stripping of core civil liberties in the past decade and a half after 9/11? Instead, more activism (with a threat of violence) has been performed on behalf of the mere right to own and display a firearm than on other core liberties under Bill of Rights protection.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

The gun rights argument is the barest of fig leafs for gun industry lobbying. Ginned up anxiety about government and [pick the minority or ideology of your greatest nightmare] to sell weapons and ammunition, along with a narrative that argues using a gun is a legitimate means of resolving disputes and proving your worth as a man, woman, American, etc. It's the perfect addiction scenario, where every trauma caused by guns encourages more people to buy guns.

Which is why it pisses me off when the gun nuts call these shootings a tragedy. No, fuck you, you don't get to do that. This is the shit that you want, even if you can't admit it. These events validate your worldview. You fucking well need this stuff to prove to yourself that you're right. It's a tragedy to the people who don't think the world should be governed by assholes with guns. If you love your gun and think you need it to cope with the world, shut the fuck up and own this crap.

What does Caitlin Jenner have to do with it?

I really shouldn't have laughed, but I did.

My Fox News loving aunt (seriously, the worst Jew ever - we're supposed to be liberal atheists, dammit) offered her "thoughts and prayers" today. I basically told her to fuck her thoughts and prayers.

Thoughts and prayers don't seem to do shit in terms of stopping bullets.

Maybe God thought it was those people's time to go. He works in mysterious ways, ya know.
