glad to see "rank and file dems" are still taking cues from the guy who let the party completely fall apart nationally under his watch.

Hmmmm, guess I'm becoming a Beto guy after all:

I would support a candidate who refuses celebrity money.

There's something quite amusing and satisfying about the right's constant feeble attempts to take down AOC, which she consistently jiu-jitsus against them.

It says something about the quality of the sort of mewling, feckless lib these grotesque conservachuds are used to dealing with that it's only AOC who prompts the warning that, like, maybe these Repubs need to be prepared for pushback on issues they're awful on.

Her politics, personality, and savvy are so contrary to how a liberal behaves that it confounds the standard Republican playbook. They're used to equating liberal with socialist—Hilary Clinton is the most left-wing presidential candidate ever!—that they don't know how to deal with an actual socialist. It might make for good rhetoric to make liberal cower, but it leaves conservatives intellectually sterile when it comes to actually confronting someone who doesn't shy away from a fight over these ideals.

Elizabeth Warren is definitely doing everyone a favour by exposing how limp most of the other contenders are: https://splinternews.com/warren-announc ... 1834211010

Warren's been great, this latest announcement is just the latest example of a deeply transformational policy that's both ambitiously leftist AND grounded in making real change on the ground. I tossed her a few bucks to do my bit for her "unique small donor contributors" category, which is usually a big deal for demonstrating support with voters in these early stages.

I think she and Bernie share too much of the same lane, and Bernie has such an ardent following (bordering on cultlike sometimes) that I think it's going to continue being tough for her to build traction, but I hope she figures out a way to break through. I get that the psychic wounds of 2016 make it tough for some people to support Bernie, but I have literally nothing but contempt for people who aren't excited by Warren but are interested in Beto, Buttigieg or Biden.

If she flames out in favor of one of those guys it will be an utterly damning indictment of the Democratic Party.

She's #1 on my list, currently.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Not remotely substantive, but fun for the design minded people:

Yeah, I always find this stuff sort of interesting. Although I remember last election designers also raved about Hillary's pretty awful (imho) logo, so I have no idea how this stuff is supposed to land, obviously.

Out of my top two candidates, I think Warren's logo is pretty cool (clean and a bit different) and Bernie's is boring. Beto's is also really good (which this article agrees with), but I think Harris' is super busy. Also, because I'm a cynic, her slogan always makes me think "for the people... that she jailed under her school truancy bill"

Two reactions: (1) Harris' is the one they liked the most (dislike the least)? Clearly I don't get design because does not stand out to me at all except for being a word salad. (2) Debbie Millman seems like a absolutely wretched grader in school. Lots of 1/10 ratings and, worse, no comment explaining why. Seriously lazy effort on her part.

Yeh, that's my take on it. She and Bernie are fighting for the same core of voters who both loathe Trump and don't want a restoration of Obama. She's younger and, presumably, would appeal more to women (if that kind of one-to-one identity politics holds water). Plus she's got the Native American vote! :shifty: But he's got buzz and loyalty, plus perhaps some do-over power for what he accomplished in 2016. But I'd like to think that she's forcing the issues on the field by being the serious candidate right from the start. Force centrist assholes to weakly say the country can't do this or that or get on board. My hope is that Warren and Sanders, even if the don't win the nomination, can basically dominate the platform and force the nominee to run left of centre. FDR ran as a conservative Democrat in 1932 but circumstances led him to move well left once in office. So there is some possibility even of a centrist being pushed to the left.
