I think they mostly were happy to coast during the Clinton and Obama, and now Biden administrations. That or just all looking around for someone else to step up.

Yeah, I think it's three things: 1) complacency during the good times (particularly the obama years), 2) a gerontocracy that has kept its grip on power past the expiration date, 3) thermostatic midterms that keep wiping out younger potential stars in the party.

This midterm may help take care of all three to some extent. It was a great result and Dems held a lot of ground, but still lost the house. Perfect time for a reshuffling in leadership but you have a pretty deep bench of Dems who have had to run competitive races and build networks of support. And Dems are anything but complacent right now.

Now, the Republicans actually have this problem too, it's just papered over by the fact that their base actually enjoys nominating the most insane, unqualified people possible for top jobs.

Yeah I think that is in the job description.

Yeah, I agree with this. Her wins this year and how she helped downballot races were actually much more impressive than DeSantis (who is getting fawning media attention) and as an exceedingly general rule governors are both better campaigners and administrators than senators.

I think she's a pretty normie progressive Dem, politically. Tho I'm sure folks can dredge up the good and bad.
