Remember when being stupid was a disqualifier for participating in a civilized society?

Re: The Trump observations thread
If you've never read Ta-Nehisi Coates' essay where he declares Trump to be America's first white president, it's well worth the time. The gist is that his entire candidacy rested on being a proud white man taking back the power from that racial usurper Obama, that he possessed no other qualities that made him a credible candidate. That he won was a validation of his racist revenge call. The essay ignores the sexism behind his candidacy in favour of race, but it's still a powerful piece of argument.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑22 Oct 2020, 7:36pmRemember when being stupid was a disqualifier for participating in a civilized society?

I like the idea that it's in a frame. To really show it off as art.

Back in the day, you could get frosted glass panels with the KISS logo on it.

Hilarious what they have to do to try and make their saviour look like their stupid idea of masculinity.

I really didn't like Idiocracy with its not-so-subtle echoes of eugenics and cultural elitism, but shit like this keeps throwing itself in my face as a rebuttal.Silent Majority wrote: ↑23 Oct 2020, 8:14amHilarious what they have to do to try and make their saviour look like their stupid idea of masculinity.

Re: The Trump observations thread
I couldn't tell if I didn't find it funny because the jokes were weak or because I just shut down at the entire premise. Especially strange and sad given how much I love Office Space and King of the Hill.Silent Majority wrote: ↑23 Oct 2020, 8:32amJust not a funny film.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑23 Oct 2020, 8:31amI really didn't like Idiocracy with its not-so-subtle echoes of eugenics and cultural elitism, but shit like this keeps throwing itself in my face as a rebuttal.Silent Majority wrote: ↑23 Oct 2020, 8:14amHilarious what they have to do to try and make their saviour look like their stupid idea of masculinity.
