The best part is that I was in this exact Tim Horton’s this morning.

I can't imagine spending 10 bucks or whatever on a cup of coffee from Tim Horton's or Dunkin' Donuts. It goes against my Gen X sensibilities and my desire to drink cheap, black coffee by the gallon.

I understand that in the US where the coffee sucks but I’d pay good money for real coffee.

Yes, it sucks literally everywhere in a country of 300 million people.

All kidding aside - coffee is pretty subjective. I know people who will only drink pricey coffee and I know people who are very okay with the gut rot you get in the waiting room of an auto repair shop. There is a local chain in Milwaukee (George Webb's) that has served the same coffee for decades - it's middle of the road quality - but it has garnered a real following around here. I'm not terribly picky myself. I grab a cup from the local Speedway (it's actually pretty good) more often than I will stop at a place like Starbucks.

I've never really understood coffee snobbery or, more charitably, discernment. Or rather my tastebuds don't understand it. The Boss will only drink Starbucks, so that's what I end up drinking if we get coffee while we're out. Tastes fine to me, neither makes nor ruins my day. I could drink Tim Hortons or any other place, too. As long as it hasn't been sitting in a pot for five hours, plus I have access to some cream, yeah, I'm good to go.

They recently swapped out the coffee maker at work (it was one of the large restaurant type coffee makers) with a dispenser and that stuff I don't like. It's not actually brewed - it's coffee concentrate that is mixed with hot water. I think they felt they were offering us something better because it has the ability to make iced coffee and a few other things - but if the basic product (black coffee) is terrible - I'd rather have the "old fashioned" coffee maker...but that is about the total extent of my coffee snobbery.
