The nonprofit I work for had to defer it last year amid the layoffs, but they are reinstating it this year.matedog wrote: ↑09 Feb 2021, 12:54pmSaw this on reddit this morning:

Love that.
I know someone who unknowingly uses that argument. The tend to look up various celebrities net worth on the internet to throw that number out there. To which I always respond what the fuck does that prove?

I think Odenkirk and Cross came up with that to respond to people who said, when O & C said Jay Leno isn't funny, that he makes more money than them.revbob wrote: ↑12 Feb 2021, 12:34pmLove that.

What’s everyone’s opinion of Universal Basic Income? and the necessity of it if AI replaces blue collar jobs?
Re: Late stage capitalism
I'm a big fan—I'm also a fan of the idea that people could choose between UBI or free education to train for a different kind of job (or both, in cases where people can't pay bills and go to school at the same time) in the case of ANY kind of job loss, through AI replacement or otherwise.RockNRollWhore wrote: ↑29 Mar 2021, 10:27pmWhat’s everyone’s opinion of Universal Basic Income? and the necessity of it if AI replaces blue collar jobs?

Re: Late stage capitalism
UBI without the gutting of the rest of the safety net is something I like, the libertarian version which is a small UBI going along with obliterating all other government welfare programs is something I vehemently oppose.
I've read conflicting accounts of how much automation is actually going to destroy jobs in the short and mid term, but I support a robust system of welfare programs either way, of which UBI would be one powerful component.
