Re: Late stage capitalism
It's not unprecedented, tho. Studies of American culture during the Great Depression have shown that movies and advertising continued to be geared toward material prosperity, regardless of reality. Part of it was the target audience—those who still had jobs and money—and part was aspirational/inspirational that this too shall pass. Advertising is all fantasy anyway, but those ads are especially distasteful.

Until the rich are swinging from tree branches, no, they aren't being attacked.

My mate Holly may come out of this with about £8000 in profit, which I'm all for.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Not in my country it isn't.
Forces have been looting
My humanity
Curfews have been curbing
The end of liberty

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Elon Musk seems like the kind of guy who will eventually spectacularly flame out of existence. I hope I'm alive when it happens.matedog wrote: ↑09 Feb 2021, 12:54pmSaw this on reddit this morning:
