I mean I’m all for prison reform, but fuck Assange.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

It strikes me as akin to all the supporters of the J6 twats who, once they were incarcerated, argued for prison reform, even if how those assholes were treated doesn't compare to the experience of a black guy in Texas who sold a joint. As Hoy said, humane prison reform is vital, but put forth an advocate who is less of a sketchy and self-interested prick. Absolutely nobody should think they're thinking about this from a greater sense of justice and humanity.

I’m just waiting for Hot Take Howard to chime in…

I firmly believe Assange should be free. While the instigators and material executors of the crimes demonstrated by WikiLeaks must be locked up in prison.

Fwiw, i suspect Assange is a scummy person who has done things to warrant imprisonment, and some of his later WikiLeaks work is pretty suspect in terms of whether it even constitutes journalism, but I also think for all of that he and WikiLeaks have still done some extremely valuable and insightful reporting in the past and I do think we need to be on guard against states trying to stifle critical reporting. Assange doesn't help the cause by being a piece of shit, but I think we need to be really careful when we talk about all this (in both directions, frankly. The assault allegations are compelling enough to warrant adjudication and I don't think anyone gets a free pass to assault women, either). The idea that these governments are motivated purely by a deep reservoir of concern for women's rights and dignity seems... suspect, to me.

Ultimately, I think we need to be both skeptical of the state here but also feel free to demand more moral rectitude of the people were asking to be truth tellers. I don't need to compromise on this, I can simply be critical of both parties.

No man?

Looks great in print. But sadly some of us have to make sure the trains run on time, drive buses and ambulances and hope they arrive on time when we need them.

We can't all be Clash white collar workers.

If you want to know if I like or care about him then no I don't. I believe he is a rapist and his victim has very credible evidence which now due to his so called incarceration has fallen by the way side.

Do I want to see him in prison here? No I don't think the british people should pay for this turd to eat three hot meals a day.

Is he a criminal? Probably, maybe who the fuck really knows with all the fake news and other bullshit you have to sift through these days to get to any semblance of truth.

Yes I'm well aware of the case being dropped but that doesn't mean he is Innocent.

"But Sweden's Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Eva-Marie Persson said she “would like to emphasise that the injured party has submitted a credible and reliable version of events”, and her statements were “coherent, extensive and detailed”.

The way I see it is like this. It's a case of throw some dirt at something and some dirt is sure to stick or there's no smoke without fire.

If Julian Assange believes in freedom and truth then I'm using my freedom and the truth I choose.

You may see things differently and that is your right and your truth.

It's not a black and white world.
