If people in this country wanted to change anything they’d show up at this NRA rally heavy and let them taste their own medicine.

This won’t happen.

In two weeks this will be old news.

This is the problem.

Sometimes I wonder if the more we push for stricter gun laws, the more the gun nuts dig their heals in and either buy more guns, get louder and more obnoxious, or act out.

It’s self-perpetuating at this point. Owning guns—especially multiple and those capable of mass damage—is rooted in fear, the fear of being dominated and harmed. That is, a base instinct that is sensible. Each event, however, augments the sense of fear—that they might get shot themselves and that lib’ruls will take away their opportunity to protect themselves from that harm (which the NRA exists to hammer home). But most liberals have, it seems, given up. Sandy Hook was a lesson that a significant portion of the population, and one with disproportionate power, is willing to sacrifice kids into the volcano. But the fear won’t go away. Weird that the more guns and mass shootings there are, the less secure the gun crowd feel, huh?

Ever since that dipshit got elected, I began digging deeper into the psychological makeup of those who support him and realized that these people are frail and insecure about everything. Everywhere there's danger. Everything is dangerous. So, yeah. It's all fear driven.

Also, I spelled heal wrong.

A colleague calls this a Nazi perspective, not because of any racial beliefs or anything like that, but a belief that disaster is imminent because of all kinds of threats, mostly hidden, and so action, especially violent action, is required. Suspend civil society to save it.

Funny because the right’s language on Covid was that you shouldn’t let fear run your life. Meanwhile they are scared shitless of everything.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

They meant "you shouldn't let (the) fear (of poor people dying) run your life"

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

Now, the fear of poor people living with dignity, that's truly alarming.

What kind of a terrible human being would spout such BS while so many people are grieving?

So Trump is speaking at the NRA convention this weekend and firearms aren't allowed at that portion. Doesn't that completely give it away that they don't actually believe that guns make you safer? Per the "good guy with a gun" theory, you'd want everyone to have a gun in that room to shoot any bad guy that has a gun.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Fuck, I can't read this. I've been actively avoiding reading about the victims. It's too hard.

I usually do too and I think that'll be the last one I read.
