After dinner nearby with my cousin I stopped for a drink at a steakhouse near the stadium in DC. Walking back to my hotel I heard gunfire and was carried my the pulse of a fleeing crowd in to an alley where I hid with others. We emerged after the sea of cops arrived. I saw desperate people compressing the wound on their friend. Fuck America.
I can't imagine the feelings you experienced witnessing such a tragedy, glad you're both ok.

This terrible story has it all. A woman forced to travel out of state for an abortion. A woman murdered by her male partner who had been physically assaulting her. A shooting (and in public). Texas.

Real interesting piece on left wing gun groups countering right wing militias: https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/cu ... 234733200/

I think I've made a number of fairly snide comments that it doesn't seem like an armed socialist revolution is exactly imminent, but I do think these gun groups do important anti-fascist work. It's quite brave really, and I think exposed what sniveling cowards most of these ultra nationalists really are.

Despite my opposition to guns and violence, I can't deny that armed anti-fascist groups is an effective immediate strategy because the right-wing gun nuts are, fundamentally, cowards. They embrace guns out of fear and they never ever talk about sacrifice. Look at the cops at Uvalde—armed to the teeth but scared to go into a place where there was someone who might shoot them. The right claims guns to intimidate by a clear edge. Eliminate that edge and their fear shows itself.

Yeah, she goes around spouting off hate mongering, but someone trying to hand her a memorial pin is an "aggressive threat". Give me a break.

I still have some friends in Lewiston. No one I know seems to have been injured or killed, but at least one friend of a friend is among the wounded/possibly killed. Just fucking horrible. Whole state is under a stay at home order now, I believe. Hoping Weller and any other Mainers here on the board stay safe and sound.
