Always remember: Stuff like that is an acceptable social cost to those who want no restrictions on fire arms. Every death, every lifelong trauma, it’s all worth so that guns proliferate.

My friend who lives in NYC says it's also a very heavily Asian area, so I wonder if this was a terror attack against the AAPI community.

We deserve every firearm murdered child in this country. After Newtown, this shit just doesn't move me. I mean, it's fucking terrible and horrific, but it's what we as a country allow, so what do else can we expect?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Re: The Political Gun Thread
Just horrifyingly sad.
Like Gene, I think I've pinged around on this issue in a few directions, but it feels inescapable that the sheer volume of firearms in this country (as Gene says, in private and public possession alike) is sheer disaster. On a micro-level I can't tell people what to do but on a macro-level it seems obvious we need mass disarmament on all sides.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Re: The Political Gun Thread
I've long said that if this were the result of serious gun control laws, it would be valid to consider that those laws were not having the desired effect and demand reconsideration. If loose gun laws co-exist with this kind of numbing, recurring madness, it should be sensible to say that the premise of those laws is not valid and a reconsideration pursued. If a person sees no reason to demand restrictions, they are tacitly admitting that those deaths—all gun deaths—are worth it.

I see Marjorie and her GOP chums are taking a little time out to offer heartfelt thoughts and prayers for the victims and bereaved before they get back to the serious business of defending all their hard won freedoms.

Anything in particular make you change your opinion?

It's quite astonishing that people who profess to be pro life above all should at the same time be pro so many things that seem to be very effective at taking life away. Re: The Political Gun Thread
This one has really rattled me. I'm a parent of a nearly 10-year-old 4th grader. It was hard walking her to school this morning. I'm so beyond done with the tired rhetoric of people like Ted Cruz and Ron Johnson (one of my senators and one of the biggest gun lobby money grabbers around). I wouldn't say I'm against guns, but I'm against irresponsible gun ownership. I'm against loopholes that make it so easy to get your hands on a weapon. I'm against high capacity firearms like AR-15's. My son was working on his boater safety license last night. You have to put more work into that than you do to purchase a handgun.
