I find that interesting. Defenseless against what? Roadside bombing that happens all the time in this country? Sniper fire? Brutal gang rapes on every street corner? I mean, what? These people are fearing an enemy that exists only in their minds.

Oh, yeah. Duh! How'd I forget those national security threats?! And this is Pride month. MTG has probably mobilized her anti-Rainbow Connection group, machetes and assault rifles at the ready, MREs stockpiled in their bunkers.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 10:20amMuslims, black people, Hispanics, queer people, atheists, liberals (aka ultraradicalsuperduper leftists) …Mimi wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 9:43amMTG really is a piece of shit.

I'd say there's a 50-50 chance that guy is a state senator now. Conditions have been very favourable for his star to ascend.

It's supposed to help you defend yourself against a tyrannical government, but if the US govt wanted to demonstrate true tyranny, I'd love to watch these fools try to take on a tank with some AK's.Silent Majority wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 1:04pmDefenceless against some other American with a gun, really

Re: The Political Gun Thread
Given how originalists are so big on the original meaning of the Constitution, it's funny (not really) that they ignore the part about militias being vital because the Founders were suspicious of a standing army (because it led to tyranny). But given the existence of a standing army, how is the original meaning of the 2nd A still relevant?Kory wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 4:07pmIt's supposed to help you defend yourself against a tyrannical government, but if the US govt wanted to demonstrate true tyranny, I'd love to watch these fools try to take on a tank with some AK's.Silent Majority wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 1:04pmDefenceless against some other American with a gun, really

Re: The Political Gun Thread
There was an interesting assertion that I saw the other day that contra the sort of romantic (?) myth of the modern guerilla army that beats back an overwhelming military force, that pretty much all of these smaller guerilla forces still have the backing and support of some major state or another to equip them with supplies, intelligence, etc. Does this ring true for people? Off the top of my head, the EZLN in Chiapas seems to have been a genuinely homegrown affair and, as the years go on, look more and more singular in their successes and sustained commitment to revolutionary principle.

It might be the exception that proves the rule? Vietnam is the obvious example whereby North Vietnam depended greatly, decisively, on support from Russia in the face of devastating American bombardment.Flex wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 5:32pmThere was an interesting assertion that I saw the other day that contra the sort of romantic (?) myth of the modern guerilla army that beats back an overwhelming military force, that pretty much all of these smaller guerilla forces still have the backing and support of some major state or another to equip them with supplies, intelligence, etc. Does this ring true for people? The Chinese Communists (and at one time the KMT!) had some support from the Soviet Union. Not sure offhand how useful that support was—I think much more in the years right before the revolution and ascent to power.Flex wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 5:32pmThere was an interesting assertion that I saw the other day that contra the sort of romantic (?) myth of the modern guerilla army that beats back an overwhelming military force, that pretty much all of these smaller guerilla forces still have the backing and support of some major state or another to equip them with supplies, intelligence, etc. Does this ring true for people? One of the consequences of the fall of the Soviet Union and the change in policy during the 80s in China was withdrawing serious support for revolutionary movements. Nowadays I tend to think that was as important to the collapse of the left as the symbolic defeat of Marxism in the collapse of the USSR and allied countries.
