Re: The Future of the Republican Party
We have our problems here but we must protect the shreds of representative government we have left. If I went to the capitol building and ran up the stairs with a pitch fork screaming my intent to murder elected officials I would expect to get shot. They were not protesting. They were attacking. I absolutely no problem with the use of brute force to repel any attack. If these people win then I firmly believe they will murder or terrorize people I care about. I'll shoot these goons myself.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 5:31pmHe and I shared a lunch years ago. He's dashing. Like a young Cary Grant.

I've observed before that hostility to science and valorization of gut thinking ("truthiness") on the right was something originally found in European leftist thinkers in the 1950s and then the counterculture in the 60s and 70s.

I can't read this because it wants me to subscribe, but I didn't realize there was a movement against science on the mid century left. Is there a specific example that I would be familiar with?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021, 4:35pmFile Under: History > Doesn't Repeat, Rhymes

Re: The Future of the Republican Party
Chiefly a response to the Holocaust and atomic bomb, and to a lesser extent how Marxism (i.e., scientific socialism) had led to totalitarianism. In the former, the faith in science as beneficial to humanity and the hallmark of progress was dealt a massive blow as it was employed to genocide and perhaps total destruction. In the latter, the confidence in rational analysis leading to a resolution of historical conflict was shaken as it led to new forms of misery. So after WWII, there was new skepticism of science and reason on the intellectual left, with the countercultural learning the same lessons from Vietnam, as well as the seeming liberation gained from psychedelics.Kory wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021, 5:15pmI can't read this because it wants me to subscribe, but I didn't realize there was a movement against science on the mid century left. That makes sense. What philosophy did they propose should take the place of science and reason? Was there any kind of consensus?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021, 5:59pmChiefly a response to the Holocaust and atomic bomb, and to a lesser extent how Marxism (i.e., scientific socialism) had led to totalitarianism. I'm far less versed on the "solution" to this problem, but existentialism mostly, a recommitment to humanism (or humanist Marxism), and more broadly the foundations of postmodernism were being laid from all this.Kory wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021, 6:16pmThat makes sense. Re: The Future of the Republican Party
Two Colorado attorneys who filed "stolen election" lawsuits seeking $180 million in damages have been ordered to pay defendants' legal fees after their case was tossed out of court last April. The defendants include Facebook & Mark Zuckerberg, Dominion Voting Systems as well as four states.
As they say, Karma is a bitch!
“The lawsuit put into or repeated into the public record highly inflammatory and damaging allegations that could have put individuals’ safety in danger," wrote Magistrate Judge Reid Neureiter, who noted that allegations of widespread fraud in the election led to threats against election and Dominion officials.

Turns out the "expert mathematician" OAN spotlighted claiming he could "prove" election fraud is a convicted felon who sets up swing sets for a living. Might be a smidge more qualified than a pillow salesman I suppose.
