Ugly times.

Remember when Republicans claimed to be about small government, keeping the state out of your business? The mask comes off.

Ugly times.

The Islanders (ie not the summer people) are really great people. They're a little strange and super tight knit to the point where they have to leave to find a mate since everyone out there are cousins. If you ever get a chance to go there you should.

Just on the off chance anyone was curious about what a journalist cited as an inspiration by mass killer Anders Breivik thinks about the current state of affairs.

Always appropriate:

As with reproductive autonomy, it's not just the denial of other people's rights, it's the demonstration of cruelty. The cruelty is what it's really about to contrast power. It's being the boss so you can humiliate someone in front of their peers; it's being the teacher so you can hand out failing grades; it's being a cop so someone knows you can ruin their day or their life.

Yeah, 100%. and since they believe everything is zero sum they think they win every time they hurt someone.

Times are getting darker for sure

Hello,

The audience is primarily old white people. I hate this as I am an older white person. I am ashamed.

My understanding is that it's a QAnon salute.

It's really terrifying. I started watching the PBS doc on America's complicity in the Holocaust (it's Ken Burns, so he's pretty much letting FDR off the hook for everything) and the parallels are frightening. Especially regarding immigrants.

I'm going to dl that once it gets torrented. I'm intrigued to see how he can give FDR a pass, tho. At best, I'd argue that FDR knew it was an issue where he'd be fighting so much of the country, including powerful Southern figures in his own party (he had to compromise a whooole lot to keep them in line for Social Security, meaning excluding categories of employment dominated by African Americans). Which isn't to say that he ardently wanted to provide refuge for European Jews, but that leadership and people were mostly in sync in not giving a fuck.

I think because he had Jewish representation in his cabinet, he felt like he was doing enough. He was an old school polite antisemite, not a firebrand one.
