So, does Johnson's evasive handling of purported domestic abuse—not to mention the possible abuse itself—seem likely to torpedo him or do Tory insiders not give a fuck about that?

It'd hurt him in a general election, but those voting from their coffins in the Tory membership don't give a damn. It might even help.

I'm not surprised, but, Christ, the absence of conscience in such people. Back in the 1920s and 30s, when Communists and Fascists were in ascendency, they (along with monarchists) criticized the failure of liberal democracy as a raise to the bottom, elevating the unworthy. When you look at conservative politics in particular, it's hard not to appreciate the point.
