“Britain is like an old theme park sliding into the Atlantic compared to modern China,” said Keating, who was Australia’s prime minister from 1991 to 1996.
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-n ... t-on-china

However accurate it is, that's gotta sting coming from a former colony. Worse when that colony is Australia.
They probably just dismiss Keating as a relic of the past and the future is free trade and brexit. But I read a stat that Australia's trade with China is 6 times more than its trade with the US and UK combined so it sounds like pretty good realpolitik to me.
Definitely—geography and economy dictate interests.
Double the distance, half the trade or along those lines is how i understand it and no amount of nuclear subs in the South China Sea gonna alter that reality.

I signed a petition against his knighthood. Should be tried in the Hague for war crimes.

Definitely. The one exception to my pacifism is the gross misconduct of high political figures. People like Blair should be publicly executed.

I'm probably not a barbaric as you. :shifty:

But I'm against any public execution. Lethal injection will do just fine. We've a horrible history of blood lusting antics here. So that can stay in the past.

So after months of tedious rumour and conjecture Johnson the clown is finally facing a no confidence vote. Seems the final straw was getting a few jeers as he took his spot on the jubilee celebration platform. Reckon the bastard will survive, he's too teflon to go down that easily but fun at least to watch them tear strips out of each other for the day.

I’ve assumed that his survival depends on the perceived strength of Labour. If the opposition is weak, the Tories are more likely to think they can ride out a clown rather than take a chance with someone else. If Labour is strong, Boris is a liability.

You're spot on, its all about electoral viability anyway, nowt to do with integrity or parliamentary scrutiny or whatever other horseshit they come up with. Once his vote winnable x factor lost its sheen sufficiently, then they'd turn against him. Opposition is weak but there is the threat from the liberals in the more affluent tory shire areas which might spook them even more than Labour. Still think he'll get through it, but Thatcher and May won confidence votes and yet both were still despatched a short time later so not really great news for him one way or the other.
