Thank you that saved me a lot of newspaper time!!Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑11 Sep 2019, 6:15pmAs far as I know, the usual explanation for proroguing a parliament—that the government needed an opportunity to reset things and offer a new legislative plan via a Crown speech in late October. As opposed to what he was really doing—shutting out parliament to let the clock run out to force thru a no-deal Brexit. The comparisons with Charles I proroguing parliament in 162whatever and ruling for a decade without calling it back aren't that out of place.101Walterton wrote: ↑11 Sep 2019, 6:06pmWhat did he tell Lizzy?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑11 Sep 2019, 3:40pmScottish Court of Appeal overruled the earlier court decision and declared that the prorogation was pursued under false pretences, and is therefore unlawful. It'll be going to the UK Supreme Court now, but if it's upheld there, it'll mean that he officially misled the sovereign with his advice to prorogue.101Walterton wrote: ↑11 Sep 2019, 3:22pmCan someone tell me in a nutshell what Boris has done now?
I’m out if the loop.

Re: Hey limeys
Not that a dolt like him considers historical reputation, but it's nice that Boris will go down as the PM who lost his majority while he was speaking in Parliament and lost every vote. And perhaps eviscerated the Tory party electorally in the process.
(Hmm, maybe he's a secret Corbynite plant.)

Re: Hey limeys
He's definitely brought the UKIP / Brexit Party members back into their old home in the Tories. That's a strong electoral coalition tbf.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑24 Sep 2019, 8:57amNot that a dolt like him considers historical reputation, but it's nice that Boris will go down as the PM who lost his majority while he was speaking in Parliament and lost every vote. Really? My understanding of things is that there's a notable split there that threatens to gut both in a first past the post system.Silent Majority wrote: ↑24 Sep 2019, 10:14amHe's definitely brought the UKIP / Brexit Party members back into their old home in the Tories. Re: Hey limeys
Not sure anything substantial has actually changed today in terms of election numbers or procedures. Equation for bojo is straightforward - avoid being impeached, voted out, arrested, not delivering brexit by 31 Oct and he marginalises Farage and gets back in government. Probably. Fail in any of these things and he's either already toast or soon will be when Farage stands a brexit party candidate in bojo's own constituency. Doing an election pact with Farage is both problematic and humiliating, but what other choice would he have?
