The Boss is home again, which means the tv has to be on to watch the funeral. Among the inane things I've heard from CBC personnel there, as the coffin rolls by we were told that that's the queen in her coffin. Which may sound stupidly obvious unless you know that at royal funerals there are always a dozen decoy coffins to foil Catholics who seek to steal the body in order to create an elixir that provides the Pope with dark power.
A friend asked me last night if I thought that the body was in the coffin in Westminster. They had heard rumour it wasn't.
Trying to avoid the whole spectacle it hadn't crossed my mind that this was a possibility. However thinking about it I think it's a possibility it wasn't.

Huh. I never thought anything could validate that song, but I tip my cap.

Really feels like this guy was about to say "we're getting to the end of the dregs" when a voice whispered in his ear piece, that's the actual prime minister ya flamin' galah.

Just saying on the news there that an estimated 250,000 people passed through for the lying in state. Frankly, i am flabbergasted by that figure, if they'd said it was in the millions, I'd have instantly believed it, that's what it felt like anyway. Apparently, it's even less than the total figure for George VI.

They're now telling us that the worldwide audience for the funeral was just short of 5.5bn. To put that into perspective, the total population between the ages of 15 and 64 is just a little over 5bn so you would have to conclude that somewhere around 90% of them tuned in to the great extravaganza. Frankly, you'd have less trouble convincing me Andrew isn't a great big sweaty nonce.

Well, a whole lot of us here have apparently missed our Beatles-walking-on-Sullivan's-moon-as-the-Challenger-explodes tv moment. Prepare to seem stupid around the water cooler today, folks.

Are you absolutely sure, though? I think the rule is if you were flicking through the channels and lingered for more than 0.001 seconds on the funeral or came within 100 metres of a shop display tv showing it, then you are automatically deemed to have "watched" this epoch shattering event. But what truly gets me is that they came up with this ludicrously wild figure while declaring that oh so modest sum for the lying in state. Why not say 1m queued up or even 20m. The more ludicrous, the better. Someone in there doesn't know how this works and needs to be sacked asap.

Yeah, it's like how the fuck are we going to convince people we're way better than North Korea at this stuff if we tell them stuff like this
