These are all status-obsessed people, whose sense of self depends on the rabble knowing who their betters are. Liberal or conservative, it doesn't matter. It's why gazillionaires whine about not being respected by us slime—it's not enough to be materially prosperous, they crave aristocratic deference, too. So they see the "rude manners" as an assault on their own status as a group. Authoritarianism going on in the country? Well, maybe, but that doesn't mean being rude to the elites, dear boy!
