Has anyone seen a fact check for this opinion piece? It seems like pretty incredible propaganda given that homicide prevention is impossible outside of Minority Report.

Even if accurate, the underlying message seems to be: you want safer streets, you better let cops do anything they want.Kory wrote: ↑30 May 2021, 12:30amHas anyone seen a fact check for this opinion piece? Pretty much anyone else who holds a job is held to a standard of performance and when you do a shitty job there are consequences.

The rule is simple: If you're a civilian and a cop is screaming and pointing a gun at you, you have to remain calm and obedient or they can shoot you (can shifts to will as skin tone darkens). If you're a cop and you're freaked out at all, you can shoot someone. You will be suspended with pay for a week or two, but, hey, there have to be consequences.

Re: Police Misconduct: Tracked
I can't remember where I heard it, npre news or something, but researchers are attributing the rise in gun violence first and foremost to the skyrocketing sales of guns over the last few years primarily with a couple additional factors none of which are any of the (tepid) police reform measures we've seen. It's malpractice that any semi-reputable.news outlet let thg lying propaganda be published. Fuck cops.

This rings way more true. I would be completely stunned to find that ANY PD has been defunded to the point where potential murderers look around and think "field day."Flex wrote: ↑30 May 2021, 9:05amI can't remember where I heard it, npre news or something, but researchers are attributing the rise in gun violence first and foremost to the skyrocketing sales of guns over the last few years primarily with a couple additional factors none of which are any of the (tepid) police reform measures we've seen. But that's how it would play out in tv/movies and people seems to be having an ever loosening grip on reality.Kory wrote: ↑30 May 2021, 4:51pmThis rings way more true. Re: Police Misconduct: Tracked
I've started digging into this youtube channel where they analyze police interrogation videos. A lot of them are notable criminal cases but this is a real fun one:
Basically this self described junkie gets pulled in on some trumped up charges and will just not play along with the cops at all. It's really fun to watch. They keep trying to trick him into giving up his rights and he is having none of it and even insults them a few times.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Re: Police Misconduct: Tracked
Just got a fundraising call from tbe national policemans alliance or some such nonsense looking for donations. Telling me its been a tough year for cops. I said not nearly as tough as its been for the people they've shot. He goes back to his script. I interrupt... Policemen are not volunteers, its a paid job, my taxes pay those salaries and they are mostly well paid jobs why do you need to raise money for them? Well you have a good night sir.
Fuckers.

Fundraising for cops is like tipping the waiter who spits in your food. Or the waiter who shoots you for being freaked out when you get out your wallet.revbob wrote: ↑08 Jun 2021, 4:57pmJust got a fundraising call from tbe national policemans alliance or some such nonsense looking for donations. I'm skeptical that anyone phone soliciting for police or fire groups is even legit.revbob wrote: ↑08 Jun 2021, 4:57pmJust got a fundraising call from tbe national policemans alliance or some such nonsense looking for donations. Re: Police Misconduct: Tracked
Call me cynical, but I got scammed by a young girl a few years back who was going door to door selling magazines. The pitch was that if you didn't want the subscription, you could have it sent overseas to our troops. Picked a couple of mags, chose a branch of the service to send them to, wrote check then decided to Google the name of the group she was with, shitloads of complaints etc. so I put a stop payment on the check.revbob wrote: ↑08 Jun 2021, 8:47pmYeah,certainly where I live they are both paid quite well.
