Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I think it's a Speedee 7-Eleven cup, maybe from a slurpee. 7-11 bought a bunch of Speedee Marts in the 60s. The colors check out and the last "E" on the cup looks like it might have an elongated upper horizontal line like this:tepista wrote: ↑04 Aug 2021, 9:51pmtepista wrote: ↑04 Aug 2021, 3:23pmHe found a better pic, I'll show you later. The consistency of the food paired with the inconsistency of the drinks is baffling.

Whoa, this is one of those lightbulb moments. My dad used to call 7-11 Speedee Mart all the time when I was a kid and I just thought it was one of his weird dad things.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 2:19amI think it's a Speedee 7-Eleven cup, maybe from a slurpee. 7-11 bought a bunch of Speedee Marts in the 60s. Yeah it’s bizarre. I like how he uses his baton as a French fry dam though. That’s good police work right there. Pretty sure they teach that on day one at the academy.

Re: Police Misconduct: Tracked
My favorite convenience store chain was Convenient Food Mart. We had one within walking distance of home when I was a kid – back when you could buy a pack of baseball cards, a comic book and a coke for a buck. I loved that place. When I was 10, circa 1982, the lady across the street would give me 50 cents or a buck to walk to Convenient and buy her a couple packs of Marlboros for $1.10 apiece. She’d send me with a note she’d write out, and Convenient had no qualms about selling smokes to a 10 year old. The store has re-branded several times - most of our local ones are now 7-11s - but my whole family still refers to that nearby store as "Convenient" decades later. It’s a hard habit to break when you’ve been going into these places for years and they suddenly change the name.Kory wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 1:13pmWhoa, this is one of those lightbulb moments. Ha. My grandparents until their last days always referred to a couch/sofa as a "Davenport".

or even "icebox"! I'm guilty too, I say WWF, and when I set the DVR I still call it "taping". "Hey honey, don't change the channel, I'm taping WWF".Kimmelweck wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 3:12pmHa. My grandparents until their last days always referred to a couch/sofa as a "Davenport".

Re: Police Misconduct: Tracked
Only took me about 2 hours of late night internet sleuthing to solve the Speedee cup mystery, if indeed that's what it is. I’d never heard of a Speedee 7-Eleven. I don’t think we had them around here – must have been primarily a west coast thing. We just had plain 7-11s.
