Spot on observation. I think every job I ever held was my "dream job" for at least a few months, then it became more like the salt mines. I think that's probably true of most people, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

Every job that has become unsatisfying has been for the same reason—a boss who fails to model the kind of behaviour they expect from everybody else. You expect me to give a shit? Then you give a shit, too. If you don't want employees to fuck the dog, then you can't be a lazy dick yourself. The best jobs I've ever had were where I had no or minimal supervision. Don't bug me unless I'm consistently fucking up and don't let me see what an irresponsible ass you are.
