Spot on observation. I think every job I ever held was my "dream job" for at least a few months, then it became more like the salt mines. I think that's probably true of most people, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.
Every job that has become unsatisfying has been for the same reason—a boss who fails to model the kind of behaviour they expect from everybody else. You expect me to give a shit? Then you give a shit, too. If you don't want employees to fuck the dog, then you can't be a lazy dick yourself. The best jobs I've ever had were where I had no or minimal supervision. Don't bug me unless I'm consistently fucking up and don't let me see what an irresponsible ass you are.
This is the truest thing, in my experience. Most every single job I had that I liked was ruined by a shitty boss.
Yeah for sure, the boss or the organization itself. its like there's this assumption that any happiness in one's job/workplace is the result of some inefficiency that is resulting in lost revenue so changes are made to eliminate fun/happiness.

That's rooted in the idea of scientific management, born in the early 20th c, whereby the individual qualities of the worker are eliminated or negated as much as possible, to make them into replaceable and manipulable parts like any other machine. A worker who has unique talents or thinks for themselves is less efficient because they aren't part of the team controlled by the boss. Nothing more counterproductive than a worker who has a sense of self-worth and a desire to enjoy their time on this planet.

Yeah, saw that in the news earlier today, disgusting. Have we not learned anything from the attempted insurrection of January 6th?

So far the only member of the republican party to speak out against his comments has been Liz Cheney.

I came across a comment from David Frum the other day, arguing that when conservatives realize they can't win elections, they won't turn from conservatism, they'll turn from democracy.

That statement is scary on so many levels and unfortunately it appears to be happening already here in the US.

Trump shut down his "From The Desk Of DJT" blog after just 29 days. News reports seem to indicate his feelz were getting hurt because so many people were publicly mocking him.

Not sure if he had internet access while he was the POTUS, but he was widely mocked for 4 straight years, so why didn't he just step down then?

Yeah, but Venezuela, etc etc …
as even the number of young Republicans holding positive views of capitalism has dropped by double digits

I don't buy for a second that they've turned against capitalism. They just think the free market should be tilted to benefit them. Some people genuinely want socialism, most just want to be the winners in capitalism.

Yeah its only capitalism when they are winners and everyone else losers.

It's been amusing seeing conservatives question the free market as demographics make non-knuckle-draggers less attractive consumer markets. Oh no, it's a crisis that Tide shows mixed-race or same sex couples in their commercials! Something needs to be done! Corporations aren't woke, they just know how to maximize their profits.

A friend in Ireland and I have been drunkenly hypothesizing the recent events in Haiti. Ok to be fair I was drunk and he wasn't/isnt. Lots of shit not making sense here...

I'm wholly ignorant of Haitian politics. What seems suspicious about the conventional story right now?
