No good will come of this:
"As tension rises over the 30th anniversary of the war between Britain and Argentina over the Falkland Islands, the Argentinian government has named the upcoming football season in honour a naval ship sunk by British torpedoes in the conflict.
The season, which begins on Friday, will be the known as the Crucero General Belgrano Primera División or Cruiser General Belgrano First Division in English. Argentina lost 649 servicemen in the war, 323 of whom were crew members on the Belgrano.
The Argentinian government owns the rights to First Division matches and shows games on free-to-air TV.
Advertising time during the matches is often used to promote the accomplishments of the government, which says the islands it calls "Las Islas Malvinas" belong to Argentina.
The 30th anniversary of the start of the 10-week war is 2 April".

Finally. I've been waiting for another war between the Queen's shrunken army and a tree stump sticking out of the ocean the next hemisphere over to produce some halfway-decent new wave music again. Mike Peters is furiously scribbling in his notebook as we speak.101Walterton wrote:No good will come of this:

The original Falklands skirmish is such an embarrassing example of petty bickering crossed with hunting for votes. Tragic that anyone should lose their life so Thatcher's could gain a few points in the polls.

Just like in this poll, Afghanistan is fucked.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Re: Best of the American Invasion
It is goddamned eerie how much Afghanistan paralleled in slow motion (until the end) Vietnam. Western arrogance and refusal to understand the land and people it occupied, a corrupt and rotting government, an opposing force that just had to wait out the occupiers, and a rapid collapse once Western power was removed, with similar horrible scenes of people trying to flee. Maybe the next quasi-imperial adventure will go better!
