ROUND 4 - Permanent Record
Baby, I'm gonna miss Baby The Trans but it is what it is.

Re: ROUND 4 - Permanent Record
Nothin' 'Bout 'Nothin is a great song - better than most of EW and his misc. wilderness years stuff - but I expect this one to be pretty lopsided. Trash City is a giant.

"Trash City" is the funnest (yeah, I said funnest) post-Clash Joe song. Every garage band should know how to play it.

I think Trash City deserves to take it all ultimately, but I voted against it for weird gut reasons.

If Bernie or Warren wins next year, you may finally be able to afford to get that checked out.

Re: ROUND 4 - Permanent Record
Only issue with Trash City is the verse/chorus melodies are the same. I don't think the chord progression changes at all either. Love that off key piano in the intro. Not unlike Dictator.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Re: ROUND 4 - Permanent Record
I agree with you about the samey-ness of the song but I grew to like it a lot. The tune is also a total lift of "Doo Wah Diddy" by Manfred Mann but something about the song wins through in the end. I love the way it becomes more agitated as the song goes on and you end up with all this crazy percussion and stuff. The ending is also genius, this is why fade outs should be outlawed.

All the songs on Permanent Record have worse production than Earthquake Weather, yet there doesn't seem to be any complaints there...Heston wrote: ↑27 Jun 2019, 6:38pmI agree with you about the samey-ness of the song but I grew to like it a lot. I know it is an easy word to rhyme to but credit for getting Kalamazoo into a song

Yeah, but Trash City as a song is better than everything on EW save for maybe one or two songs. You're right though, the production is very similar.Kory wrote: ↑27 Jun 2019, 7:17pmAll the songs on Permanent Record have worse production than Earthquake Weather, yet there doesn't seem to be any complaints there...Heston wrote: ↑27 Jun 2019, 6:38pmI agree with you about the samey-ness of the song but I grew to like it a lot. I think the lyrics are way more intelligible on EW than PR.101Walterton wrote: ↑27 Jun 2019, 7:32pmYou can hear Joe on Trash CityHeston wrote: ↑27 Jun 2019, 7:29pmYeah, but Trash City as a song is better than everything on EW save for maybe one or two songs.
