ROUND 4 - Rock Art & The X-Ray Style, Side 2

Post by Flex »

Tony Adams got hisself retired and X-Ray Style emerged as the winner of side one of its namesake record. So, we're onto side two.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

When I first picked up X-Ray, I actually note-for-note preferred the second half of the album, so this is gonna be quite the tough heat for me. That said, Nitcomb is an easy choice since I felt it was the one throwaway on the record.

If we celebrate Joe's lyrics on so many songs, "Nitcomb" deserves a kick in the shins. It fails to try.

Yeah, that's it for me. I'm such a big lyrics guy, and this is just a total nothing.

I'm not Diggin' the New. Such an uninspired lyric, especially the chorus.

I feel bad being so negative but I'm really not a big fan of this side of the album.

Edit: Mispelled a word when the full force of Matey's statement about Bhindi Bhagee hit me for a second.

I hope Forbidden City wins. It doesn't feel like a Meskies song to me.

It's my pick, even though it sounds like the Wallflowers.

Hoyston for me.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I'm glad I have an ally, even if it probably doesn't help my cause.
