ROUND 6 - The Wilderness Years, Non-Album Tracks, Pt. 1
The Burning Lights got snuffed out.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Man. I'm also sad to see that one go. A stirring track about loneliness and being lost.

Yeah, I'm surprised it got bagged before Love Kills and a few others. I reckon it's one of Joe's best.Silent Majority wrote: ↑02 Jul 2019, 11:48amMan. I'm also sad to see that one go. A stirring track about loneliness and being lost.

Yeah. Ten times the song over some of the others on the list.msza2 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2019, 11:49amYeah, I'm surprised it got bagged before Love Kills and a few others. Agreed. Burning Lights is a top 5 Strummer song for me. Maybe Love Kills is a decent song, but it's hard to tell because it sounds like shit.Silent Majority wrote: ↑02 Jul 2019, 11:50amYeah. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Great set of tunes. Voting for Tennessee Rain since it gets so eclipsed by The Unknown Immortal, imho.

This is hard, some of his best songs here.

I don't think it sounds like shit, they just used that horrible drum machine that Robert Palmer used for Addicted To Love. The harmonica and guitars are fine. Weird how Joe stuck with a drum machine after the CtC debacle.matedog wrote: ↑02 Jul 2019, 12:24pmAgreed. Burning Lights is a top 5 Strummer song for me. I love Evil Darling so much, especially that line "Apache war dead guarding your soul."

First thing I think of with that song is that glaring, loud, abrasive snare.Heston wrote: ↑02 Jul 2019, 2:59pmI don't think it sounds like shit, they just used that horrible drum machine that Robert Palmer used for Addicted To Love. The intro...
fuck, I hated the 80s drum machine fetish!
