Exactly mate. No need to treat these tracks like this at all.

I was waiting for confirmation that once again it is brick walled. Bummer. I am also a bit disappointed with the track selection. First of all lose the live Clash covers, Joe had enough good solo tracks to fill a best of without having to resort to that. The one rarity then is solo version of Junco Partner (that I really enjoy but...? Why bother with the rarities then? Should have saved that for 002. I would have made certain all the singles were included at the very least. So here is my version of Assembly compiled along the same lines as the original dropping a few and adding a few. What would you change?

1 Coma Girl (single from SC)
2 London Is Burning (single from 001)
3 Johnny Appleseed (single from GAG)
4 Trash City (single from PR)
5 Island Hopping (single from EW)
6 Tony Adams (single from RA&XS)
7 Generations (single from Generations)
8 Sleepwalk (album track EW)
9 Love Kills (single from S&N)
10 Gangsterville (single from EW)
11 Get Down Moses (album track from SC)
12 X-Ray Style (album track RA&XS)
13 Tennessee Rain (single from Walker)
14 15th Brigade (B-side EW)
15 Redemption Song (single from SC)
16 Burning Lights (single from IHACK)
17 Forbidden City (album track RA&XS)
18 Yalla Yalla (single from RA&XS)
19 Filibustro (single from Walker)

Yes, I was disappointed with the track listing. If they were trying to pick up new converts they went the wrong way about it. Your track listing is definitely better but I would have found space for Evil Darling, The Unknown Immortal and It's a Rockin' World.

I would drop Redemption Song as it a cover and add the 3 Heston suggested.

Compare all the variants to the mix I did in 2018.
What was the mix you did in 2018? I have tried my best to keep up with your incredible output, but must have missed this. Although I don't understand the graphic, I can see quite a difference.

I agree in theory, and would include the songs from Walker and Permanent Record on my best of. But our wish lists have more songs that would have needed to be licensed than they used. As Assembly is coming out through UMG, it’s probable that the other record companies would have charged more than they did to license tracks for 001. They also have sadly now used Junco Partner and I Fought the Law as promo tracks, both cover songs but both associated with the Clash, even if Joe had been doing Partner years earlier.

I think this album has to be considered more of a sampler for the Mescaleros records that will be coming out on Dark Horse.

I bought the box set online but got conned. The kind folks here then bought me the box set. I remixed the whole box set when I realised it was brick walled. I did share it with a few here privately. But I'm not re-upping it here.

The graphic shows the brick walling that has occured. The blue blocks are the WAV files and they should be within the parameters of the software. Where the blue meets the outer lines is where distortion occurs. A common thing with modern recordings just making something louder. But this loses any peaks and troughs and nuances.

I recommend the book Perfecting Sound Forever, which has a great chapter on the Loudness Wars that birthed brickwalling as well as a proper good run through the history of recorded sound.

Let's hope they treat the Meskies albums better. But I doubt they will. Didn't they already get a reissue on Hellcat?

Thank the lord The Clash used Tim Young for the Sound System remasters.

I can see what you mean about the 'peaks and troughs and nuances' looking back now, thanks for the insight.

Redemption Song was released as a single by Hellcat so had to stick to my rule of including all singles. I wanted to drop it as well. Evil Darling qnd The Unknown Immortal are both great but this is limited to one 80 min CD or at least that was another rule i was following that I did not mention. Ideally this would be a 2 CD set.
