Continuing The Strummer Shows,
I recently got this one sent to me, which is the first Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros gig I have a recording of.
Details below, if you haven't got it and want a copy
JOE STRUMMER and THE MESCALEROS
Tibetan Freedom Concert
RAI Parkhal, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
June 13, 1999
Setlist:
01 [intro]
02 (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais
03 Forbidden City
04 Rock The Casbah
05 Straight To Hell
06 Tony Adams
07 Yalla Yalla
08 I Fought The Law
Lineage:
Recorded on a Sony MZ-R30 Minidisc Recorder with Sony ECM-MS907 microphone, about 20 meters from the stage on the less crowded left side of the venue.
Info:
Short set, part of the Amsterdam edition of the 1999 Tibetan Freedom Concert, which was simultaneously organised in Sydney, East Troy and Tokyo. Other artists on the bill in Amsterdam were (amongst others) Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals, Garbage, Blur, Alanis Morissette and Thom Yorke with Jonny Greenwood. Most performing artists had a hard time on stage as the 13.000 capacity venue was not even half filled and the lack of atmosphere was a real mood killer. You can clearly hear Strummer struggle to get a crowd reaction going in this recording. I never shared this one before, so enjoy!
