Yeah Joe loved the Graceland album but I personally don't hear a massive influence. But bits yeah, that and a New Orleans thing going on. Maybe it suffers from too many influences.
Hi Marky, have you experimented with the mix of Global a go go?
I would be interested in what you could construct from Joe's most cohesive solo album. What would X-Ray Style sound like without the percussion for example.
Thank you for the latest remixes, its great to hear nuances that have been buried under very murky original mixes. It must be hours of work constructing mixes and equalising volumes. Cheers
Never played with any of the Mescalero's stuff. Maybe who knows.
It does take a lot of hours but I enjoy it when I can fully immerse myself in a project.
Haven't heard Marky's remaster yet but I will say CTC is a much much better album than EW. The former has a melodic quality that is totally missing on the latter.
I'm not sure I agree but they both seemed to fail in opposite directions.
I imagine if Joe had dropped the Clash moniker and recorded CTC with the band on EW as a solo record then hey maybe just maybe.

I remember being terribly disappointed when this album came out, not as bad as when CTC came out but I really had high hopes for this one. I know Marky can bring some life to it. Thanks Marky, got my morning listening sorted.

I dared to play Boogie with Your Children/Baby O'Boogie.
This so wants to be James Brown fronting The Meters but sadly ended up like Prince fronting Level 42.

Anybody have any idea who played violin on Cholo Vest? Is it possible it was Don “Sugarcane”Harris? He was the violin player in Willie MacNeil and Joey Altruda’s band Tupelo Chain Sex. Both musicians were in the Latino Rockabilly War when they recorded the Permanent Record tracks at Baby ‘O Studios in Hollywood. Also, off topic but, anybody have lyrics for Nefertiti Rock? I can’t even decipher Joe’s lyrics. “Something, something please don’t let me be misunderstood”

Nefertiti Rock
Oh Jazzy is doing the hoopla
Oh little Ruby do the jerk
Oh little Lola's fallen down again
I know your mama ain't at church
This used to be biggest city
For 99 and one half miles
But like the tomb of Nefertiti
She's been flooded by the Nile
Yeeeeah hah!
Wooowooowooowooo!
And by the tomb guarding his name
More than I still within
She went to sell off to save men
The county devil with her land
The streets were dirty filthy
Oh but it was our neighbourhood
That someone's working on the freeway
Please don't let them be misunderstood
Well! It's a holy garden
When our free'd easter comes
A sabbath channel's on the morning
In 59 and 61
This! wasn't our forties
Where we used to rock the floor
Oh why did I recall it's heartened
The way she used to walk the floor
Oh Jazzy does the loola
Oh little Ruby does the jerk
Oh little Lola's gonna bang it
I know your mama ain't at church
This used to be biggest city
For 99 and one half miles
But like the tomb of Nefertiti
She's been flooded by the Nile
Oh Jazzy is doing the hoopla

Thanks Marky. How did you get a hold of the lyrics? The CD I have doesn’t have them, and as far as I know the LP doesn’t either.
I did however decipher Theme From Permanent Record “Hey Hey dum dum dum dum” lol
I split the track into guitar/drums/bass/vocals.
Then put the vocals into my software and slowed them down. They must be the most garbled vocals I've ever heard. Still I think they are fairly accurate.

Thanks for this Marky, I hadn't even heard a lot of these songs! Where are they from? Were they outtakes? Was there a longer edition I wasn't aware of?

All the extras are from the singles 7" 12" & CD related to the album. No longer edition has been released. Just me rounding everything up.
DP: Are you happy with the way Global A Go-Go came out?
JS: Yeah. I'm really happy. Y'know, once I met Paul Simon, accidentally, in England. He was staying at some guy's house that I dropped in on. And we got to talking and I was talking to him about `Simon's album` Graceland, and he looked at me and said, "One day you're going to put it all together, everything you've ever done and you're going to make a record and it's going to come out great. Just concentrate on that. Try and make that record." That was about seven years ago he said that. I've kept that in my mind and when I was listening back to what we'd done this time, I thought, "We've finally made that record in my mind that I hadn't spoken to anybody about." I'm gonna send him a copy.

Depends on the results you are expecting. There are very expensive softwares/programs/plug-ins to buy which would take an awful lot of explanation. But there are also cheaper options like "Moises" which you can download for free but will only save to to mp3/mp4. The free version only allows for a 3 min track the paid version gives better options and and more separation. You just upload your track then click which separation option you require and wait. Some tracks work great others not so good so it's a lottery. Hope this helps.
