You could well be right there. Can't remember if there are lyrics with the album but i always assumed vandal eye for some reason, though i couldn't say what is meant by it. Vandalised would make sense in the context of the stadium demolition though that didn't happen until 2 years after the song was written.
My take is different to both "Vandal eye" - Low down low and "Vandalised" - Laxman.

I think it's a play by Joe on there being the Wembley twin towers and the attack of 9/11. With people looking at foreigners as terrorists.

Them twin tower vandal-aye

Aye as in the scottish way of saying "yes".
Never copped the ny twin towers connection but that's definitely possible too, though again i think the song pre dates the terror attack. "Vandal aye" is intriguing, i wouldn't rule anything out tbh.
Forget my stupid theory. I don't think Joe wouldve mentioned it pre the attack. :disshame:

I was just thinking how Joe liked to juxtapose ideas in his lyrics. But my theory doesn't make sense.

I even checked to see if there was any significance to the 1925 F.A. Cup final re the postcard in the lyrics but found nothing.
Remember the Acton show where Joe introduces Tony Adams as a song about "a catastrophe hitting New York." When i first heard it, I thought it was Joe being a bit tongue in cheek, but the lyrics actually do fit rather well when you think about it. Not that i believe he's clairvoyant in any way, just a bit of a spooky coincidence is all.

I think the 1925 is simply an historical reference to when the first red phone box was introduced but beyond that, I'm stumped by what he's trying to get at there. I still really like the line whatever it is.
Yeah the first red telephone box appeared in 1924 so that fits nicely with the postcard lyric.

I thought the premonition about New York at the Acton show was interesting as well,

I think there was a post-apocalyptical strain throughout a lot of his Mescaleros work. Gammy Ray, At the Border Guy, Get Down Moses and others also seem to paint a picture of people trying to collect themselves after some sort of catastrophe.

One thing I've always loved about the Global album is that it almost seems like it's a transmission from the near future where a world without borders is starting to emerge out of the ashes. It's like a snapshot of the first glimmer of hope after a very dark and destructive period.

Love this:
"We built the buildings of the new city
Out of the broken down peoples
And we built the new languages
Out of courtesy and velocity"

I think in reality he is speaking about the present day, but it has always hit me as a voice from the future describing the world after spending 10 years in an underground hideout or something. Now that I think about it, that may be a decent metaphor for his having emerged from a depressive/wilderness period of his own and seeing the world in a new light as he got his second creative wind with the Meskies.

I may be reading too much into things at this point, though. Whatever the case, I view Global is his 'great literary work' and love it to pieces.

Good spot, never ever clocked that in all these years. Was it deliberate, do you think?

I really don't know mate. As the song mentions "the woolly scarf of" I'm assuming a spelling mistake that stuck.

Maybe to avoid copyright infringement- which is perhaps why we had ‘Koka Kola’ on LC?
Footy Clubs being very protective of their brand, merchandise rights etc etc

I wonder if the spelling has changed to get closer to how Ukraine does it, like Kiev/Kyev.

Sometimes known as Kyiv.

So all things possible mate. I think it might've been unintentional.

Again all possible. But Koka Kola isn't really about the soft drink. And it was originally called "Koka Kola advertising and Cocaine". Just a thinly veiled drugs reference. So I guess more than one reason not to use the product name especially a huge corporate giant like Coca Cola.

And call a man a fool
If for spice he doesn't strive?
Well then, mister, you should try another pie

Can you condemn a man
If he prefers his chicken cold?
Say if he likes that crispy skin
Then he doesn't have a soul?
Could you say that men
For Burger King and pantry all must die?

Well then, mister, you should try another pie
Yeah mister, you should try another pie
