Nice! I think Joe really did love that song and so do I.
I have to say I've never been a big fan of it. The cod Jamaican accent turned me off straight away. I always lose it straight away in a Sandinista trim.

The Clash version is definitely one of his loosest vocals, though it strikes me as being more in the vein of his slurry Right Profile delivery than as cod Jamaican. It's usually one of the last to go on my slim S! mixes more due to balance (too much reggae) than quality. I do like it though.

Yeah, clearly one of Joe's favorites. In fact, I took a look at his solo setlists on setlist.fm (far from complete, but still...) and there are only 3 songs he played at least once each year during his 88-89 LWR touring years and 99-02 Mescaleros years: Junco Partner, I Fought the Law, and Pressure Drop.

I definitely get the issue with the accent but i was always ok with it. Or it didn't put me off at least. And while I've never considered it too deeply, I'm a fan of "slurry" Joe. Junco, Right Profile and Lightning Strikes are all vocals i really like, to name just 3.

Interesting. IFTL was on most, if not all, of his Pogues appearances too. I suppose it's a good crowd pleaser but personally, i think I had quite enough of it by the end.

Strange because I love Joe's vocal on The Right Profile but I think Lightning Strikes and Junco are two of his worst. I sometimes wonder if the former was a major reason for getting his teeth fixed.

The vocal on The Right Profile is excellent. I've heard in isolation and Joe is giving it some.
Lightning Strikes suffers from too many words and a poor mix.
Junco Partner the vocals actually suit the whole laid back oddness of the track. A track I grew to really like as time went on.

I really like the playful piano lines on the Clash's JP.
I think my favorite Junco Partner these days is the 101ers' version. I've come to see it as ground zero for my favorite strain of Joe's musical inclinations, which is the afro-caribbean party-punk stuff. Basically all the upbeat ska/reggae Clash numbers, Washington Bullets & Let's Go Crazy from S!, and latter day tunes like Global A Go Go and Coma Girl.

I kinda get the same feeling about IFTL. For some reason it seems more like a mere crowd pleaser rather than a song that was really close to his heart, though I have absolutely nothing to back up that feeling. Perhaps it was the song that most represented his inner cowboy.

I think it would certainly appeal to his inner outlaw alright. And i know the official version is something like they heard it on a juke box during their US tour, but Joe at least must've known the song from well before that. Ducks Deluxe had even released it as a single in '75 so he'd have to at least known it by that time, i think.
