Post by nohs »

Found this while researching for our upcoming trip to Japan. It is at the Traveler’s Factory Kyoto Store. Will have to visit... (@4:35 mark)

The person who took that photo gave a detailed account of how it came to be. He was just travelling the underground and realised Jow was sitting alongside and asked for the shot.

“In 1981 I happened to see Joe Strummer – he was the singer for the punk rock band The Clash – on the tube. I saw him sitting on the other side of the seat, but I thought he was too private – he might get too angry – but I was trying to be brave, I went up to him and asked him ‘may I take a picture of you.’ he smiled and said ‘yes’, and I clicked several shots.

Just before he got off the train he said to me, ‘You should take photos of whatever you want. That’s punk.’ ” Herbie Yamaguchi

Have a great trip Snoh!

Kyoto is a beautiful city, I've been there many times and even performed there. You will love it! If you get a chance and want to have a late drink at a Rock and Roll bar stop in to the Jam House, my friend Shimizu might be at the bar and there is a pic of me on the wall of fame!

Have a great trip!

What I don't get is, "Traveler's Factory" is just a stationery store. What is the deal and why are there so many customers?

I don't get it either, but our two girls are crazy about stationery. I bet they'd love it there.

Hope you're enjoying your trip!
